The purpose for this causal-comparative study was to determine the most effective use of Accelerated Reader (AR) in the upper primary grades. Using reading scores from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), the researcher analyzed the scores of 12 different schools based upon size and use of AR. The schools that used AR with an incentive program had the highest increase in ITBS reading test scores.
