Abstract/Summary:
The problem. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among environmental turbulence, strategic aggressiveness of information technology, organizational information technology capability, and organizational performance.; Method. A descriptive/correlational study of the 175 questionnaire responses was conducted. Three levels of managers (general manager, IT manager, key functional manager) both in the U.S.A. and in Korea were the research population. In order to investigate the relationships among the perceptions gaps and performances among the managers, at least two responses from an organization were required for this study. The intent of the study was to evaluate the relationships among strategic aggressiveness of IT, organizational IT capability, IT performance and overall performance.; Results. Organizational IT performance is inversely related to the gap of the perception of environmental turbulence between general managers and IT managers. IT performance is significantly associated with overall organizational performance. Optimal level of IT performance leads to optimal overall organizational performance. Organizational IT performance is a significant predictor of overall performance.; Organizational environmental turbulence level and IT performance are inversely related. As environmental turbulence increases, organizational IT performance decreases. However, across the environmental turbulence levels, IT performance and overall organizational performance are significantly correlated.; This study provided empirical support for organizational environmental turbulence as a driving contingent variable for organizational IT performance and overall performance. The performance advantage of alignment among environmental turbulence, IT strategic aggressiveness, and IT capability is empirically validated partially.
