Abstract/Summary:
Research of the use of values-based senior leadership skills, values, and concepts reflects a belief that many senior leaders are not fully prepared to take advantage of important leadership skills, values, and concepts, that are predicted to effect change in the southeastern Florida construction industry within the foreseeable future. The results of the present study were based on the degree of importance senior leaders placed on the need to value belief in values-based leadership skills, values, and concepts as part of their leadership approach and introduced reliable means to guide those senior leaders who believe values-based leadership skills, values, and concepts are important to both improvement and change within the southeastern Florida construction industry. As reflected in the majority of responses by the senior leaders a great deal of importance was placed on the ability to successfully execute strategies that contribute value to customers and lead to customer satisfaction, preference, referral, and loyalty. Not much importance was placed on the need for senior leaders to value a belief that creating employee partnerships will lead to greater product quality for a construction business. Senior leaders of the construction industry have yet to establish a belief that employee partnerships would better accomplish overall goals and could involve creating network relationships among work units to improve flexibility, responsiveness, and knowledge-sharing. The researcher concluded that the senior leadership of the construction industry of southeastern Florida expressed a belief that future construction business success is subject to valuing beliefs of values-based leadership skills, values, and concepts as part of their leadership approach. Senior leadership should focus on results, not on procedures, tools, or organization of the construction industry, by developing and demonstrating creative, adaptive, and flexible approaches to values-based leadership skills, values, and concepts. Senior leaders should also focus on a systems perspective, particularly when strategy and goals change over time, by establishing dynamic linkages designed to help their construction business enhance their performance by focusing on dual, results-oriented goals of (a) delivery of ever-improving value to customers, resulting in marketplace success; and (b) improvement of overall construction business effectiveness and capabilities.
