Abstract/Summary:
Leadership and management are essential skills for construction managers who wish to grow, adjust, and be successful. Through profiling of project managers, it was found that leadership skills have equal importance as managerial skills.;Within these skills categories, project planning, scoping, identifying risks early as well as building strong teams and resolving team conflicts were regularly identified as key to project success. In addition, few project participants believed that successful selection of project staff or development of team members were key to project manager success.;Finally, the research found that clients tend to place more value on management and project control compared to the rest of the project team. This misalignment seems to result in a default setting adding more management, monitoring and reporting possibly at the detriment of leadership.
