| This dissertation presents the CIMOP method for the evaluation of Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Organization and People system design. The main purpose of this method is to aid in planning and evaluation of the overall design quality of the CIM systems from the integration of technology, organization, information system and people subsystem point of view. The proposed method can be used to evaluate a CIM system design prior to implementation, to evaluate an existing CIM system, to compare alternative CIM system designs, and to do ‘what-if’-type analysis about the total effect of alternative system improvements.; Today, most CIM system installations fail, and consequences are severe. The objective of this method is to reduce problems related to CIM system installations.; The CIMOP method utilizes a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to evaluate selected design factors. Such factors describe critical design aspects of organization, technology, information system and people aspects of a CIM system. The FLC has a hierarchical structure utilizing four levels and 3690 decision rules. The CIMOP method has a graphical user interface (GUI).; The applicability and the usability of the CIMOP method were tested in a user test. Test participants were selected among academic and industrial experts. Based on the feedback the CIMOP method is a promising tool. The usability of the CIMOP method was evaluated to be good. Feedback gave motivation for further development of this method. |
