| This study examines effects of culture change on leadership in the Pentecostal/Charismatic churches in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.;The concepts of culture change, the role of change agents in the process of culture change, the significance of cultural leadership values, leadership patterns and the impact of culture change on Pentecostal/Charismatic leadership are described. Haile Selassie's Modernization Program, his interest in western education and the impact of western education on culture change are also discussed.;The culture change created a climate in which the political and religious infrastructure were inadequate to accommodate the new elites. While some people followed the Marxist ideology, other people embraced Pentecostalism to meet their felt needs. When science, western and eastern philosophy failed to meet the need of the supernaturalistic worldview of the Addis Ababa youth, they turned to Pentecostalism.;The Pentecostal Movement has survived the monarchical government, the Marxist leadership and the current transitional government. However, all these changes in political leadership, the economy, religious composition, the ethnic composition in Addis Ababa have affected the current Pentecostal/Charismatic leadership.;To examine the effects of culture change on Pentecostal/Charismatic leadership data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with pastors, denominational leaders, youth leaders, lay leaders, Christian professionals and church members in Addis Ababa. The effects of culture change on the Pentecostal/Charismatic leadership in Addis Ababa, are addressed.;Conclusions and recommendations indicate areas of strength and weakness in the current Pentecostal/Charismatic leaders in Addis Ababa. Missiological and theological concepts are suggested to address emerging leadership issues. |
