Leadership is the core of the experience that human accumulates along with the development of civilization. Leadership, however, had not been treated as science discipline until 1930s. At present, leadership has progressed to be a multiple discipline, which is related to science of management, behavior science, economics, sociology, psychology, philosophy and law. Charismatic leadership, transformational leadership and LMX theory are three main streams in the field. There have been many charismatic leaders in China since ancient times. Two great well-known emperors in ancient China, Yao and Shun, who ruled the empire by their moral and behavior, should be two exemplars of charismatic leaders. But few Chinese scholars paid attention to charismatic leadership.The research analyzed the relationship between position distance and charismatic leadership, then made a model to explain the interaction between charismatic leadership and leadership efficiency, which include performance, job satisfaction, intention to leave, organizational citizenship behavior and organizational commitment. Data were collected from two private-own companies in Chengdu by questionnaire survey. The questionnaire establishment was based on some recognized scales used by well-known researchers of the field. The construct validity of the scale was tested by confirmatory factor analysis. The result showed that the construct validity and reliability of the scales was good. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, blocked regression and SEM (StructureEquation Model).The result showed that (1) there was a negative relationship between charismatic leadership and position distance; (2) the relationship between charismatic leadership and subordinate's performance was not significant; (3) there was a positive relationship between charismatic leadership and job satisfaction; (4) there was a negative relationship between charismatic leadership and intention to leave; (5) there was a positive relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational citizenship behavior; (6) there was a positive relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational commitment; (7) the influence of charismatic leadership to performance was mediated by job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behavior and organizational commitmentThe limitation of the research and the recommendation for further research was discussed at the end of the paper...
