Abstract/Summary:
The coupling of synchrotron radiation and high-temperature diamond anvil cell with the energy dispersive X ray diffraction method was applied to the study of the phase relationships, transformation mechanisms, and equations of state of Fe, Fe-Ni alloys, and Fe;Four isothermal runs at 25;Diffusionless type phase relationships of the Fe-rich Fe-Ni alloys with 10, 25, and 35 wt.% Ni were determined up to 600;Phase relationships between magnetite (mgt) and its high pressure polymorph (hFe;The results are used to infer the status of the earth's core. The separation of the inner and outer core might have been aided by the decomposing of Fe-Ni alloys into the fcc and hcp phases.
