Abstract/Summary:
An analysis of the main parameters affecting the vehicle control and stability for different driving conditions, including emergency situations are carried out using simplified and comprehensive computer-based models. A computer control algorithm is developed to provide appropriate steering input to help the vehicle overcome critical situations when the available time is too short for the driver to react. An information system also is designed to display some safety related parameters to enhance the driver's awareness of the actual operating conditions.; This control system can be integrated with an antilock wheel system to utilize available road-tire friction and the vehicle inertia to improve vehicle stability and enhance its safety.; The conveniences and versatility of the computer control system shows excellent promise in extending the car's ability to meet the requirements imposed by different operating conditions. Proper hardware should be developed to realize the proposed control systems.
