Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research study was to find significant justification for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) to consider implementing job classification procedures into the Human Resource Certification Institute Official PHR and SPHR Certification Guide(c) (Weinberg, 2009). The research study emphasis was on attaining a deeper understanding of job classification procedures. The research study applies real-life, contextual understandings, multi-level perspectives, professional influences and analyses of personal experiences of job classification procedures. The research study used the qualitative phenomenological research design to explore ways human resource professionals may obtain essential knowledge, skill and ability of performing job classification procedures.;The research study provides an overview of federal regulations, policies, and resources on job classification including The Classifier's Handbook (1991), Introduction to Position Classification Standards (2009) to provide context for the analysis of in-depth interviews with human resource experts from the federal and the private sectors. The data collected was insightful and provided a deeper understanding of job classification procedures. The research study findings validated job classification knowledge, skill and ability as vital components in creating fair and equal job classification standards. The research study findings provide significant justification for the Human Resource Certification Institute to include job classification procedures into the Human Resource Certification Institute Official PHR and SPHR Certification Guide(c) for human resource professionals to attain a basic knowledge, skill and ability of job classification procedures.;Keywords: job classification, job descriptions, human resource professional.
