Abstract/Summary:
The main purpose in this study was to identify the existing standards for teacher certification/license/endorsement in occupational home economics and determine what certification/license/endorsement standards a panel of experts thought ought to be adopted. Survey methodology was used to collect data. Data were collected in two stages.;Instrument I-Current Standards Questionnaire was mailed to home economics state supervisors/teacher educators from 48 states in the first stage. The 1983 directory of vocational home economics state supervisors was used to identify the respondents for stage one. For the second stage, Instrument II-Recommended Standards Questionnaire was mailed to a panel of 10 experts in vocational home economics. Random sampling was used to determine the composition of the panel of experts.;The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Program was used to analyze the data. Percentages and frequencies of distribution were obtained. Results point to an alarmingly wide variance of current certification standards in occupational home economics in most states. On the other hand, although the experts did have some disagreements in some of their recommendations, they were in a consensus in a majority of the areas where certification was required. Findings from the study accentuate the need for a more unified certification standards that can be implemented across states in the entire United States.
