Abstract/Summary:
This study examined the parental involvement of Asian American, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and White/Caucasian parents and the relationships between parenting practices and academic achievement based on reading and mathematics test scores. Using data from the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002, this study investigated the associations between parental involvement with 10th grade students and their academic success in high school. Results indicated that (a) parenting at school, (b) parenting at home, (c) if student's first language is English, (d) family social activity, and (d) socioeconomic status have significant direct effects on student academic achievement, with socioeconomic status being the strongest indicator.
