Abstract/Summary:
This study was designed to determine the relationship between leadership behavior and work adjustment for business and office teachers and bank clerical employees. Work adjustment was stated in terms of the level of general satisfaction and general satisfactoriness, and leadership behavior was indicated in terms of consideration and initiating structure.;The sample for the study consisted of 28 business and office education coordinators, 100 business and office teachers, 36 bank supervisors, and 108 bank clerical personnel employed in Weld County, Colorado during August through October 1984. A three-part instrument was used to gather data. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, and the Minnesota Satisfactoriness Scales were used to design Part I, II, and III of the instrument. Data were collected by mail survey; 20 business and office education coordinators, 65 business and office teachers, 31 bank supervisors, and 80 bank clerical employees responded. The t test and the Pearson Product-Moment formula were utilized for statistical analyses. The level of significance was established at the .10 level. The major findings of the study were the following:;There was a significant and positive relationship between initiating structure behavior of bank supervisors and work adjustment of bank clerical employees. No significant relationship existed between consideration behavior of bank supervisors and work adjustment of bank clerical employees.;There was a significant and positive relationship between initiating structure behavior of business and office education coordinators and work adjustment of business and office teachers. No significant relationship existed between consideration behavior of business and office education coordinators and work adjustment of business and office teachers.;The researcher recommended that more research needs to be done by using a different instrument and strategy to validate the findings of this study. It was also recommended that the relationships of age, length of time on present job/present line of work and work adjustment of business and office teachers and bank clerical employees need to be examined.
