Police recruitment and retention are critical issues facing policing agencies throughout the U.S., including Kyle, Texas. Kyle PD has experienced high attrition in the last five years without clarity as to the reasons. As Kyle is growing rapidly, demand for qualified recruits is high, applications are low, voluntary attrition is high, available skilled staff low, and the expense of losing trained, experienced staff is causing budgetary and manpower crises among both officers and telecommunications experts, a critical group often overlooked in research efforts. In order to assist Kyle's police department in their recruitment and retention efforts and thus positively impact their budget, a qualitative analysis of their exit interviews is presented along with a review of current literature to examine key areas of potential improvement. 'Participants' were those employees who filled out an exit interview prior to voluntary departure in the years 2009 through 2014. |
