A Polycentric Model For Analysis Of Job-housing Balance In Wuhan, China

With the development of city,there are many problems such as traffic jam and environment pollution,have been generated due to gathering of urban population,polycentric spatial structure became the new tendency of urban development.However,there are no effective solutions for polycentric city to balance the workplace and residence.On the one hand,the imbalance of workplace and residence in polycentric city result in the new city easily to become a "bedroom city" for lacking of employment attraction.On the other hand,the structural mismatch of workplace and residence is familiar in polycentric city.The dissertation attempts to recognize the main centers and vice centers of Wuhan city,analyze the quantitative and structural matching of job-housing,and explore how to use polycentric model to analysis the mismatch of job-housing in Wuhan.And then this dissertation attempt to propose optimization strategies based on the job-housing mismatching analysis and commuting efficiency measurement.This article contains four parts which including the following contents:Part one includes chapter one and chapter two which are the topic basis and research significance.Chapter one introduces the scientific thesis of workplace and residence relationship in polycentric city,and clarifies research objectives and main research content,select specific research methods.Chapter two is a theoretical foundation for research,this chapter sorts out the relevant contents of domestic and foreign scholars' research on polycentric spatial structure,the relationship of workplace-residence and commuting.Part two includes chapter three and chapter four which are the data basis.Chapter three preprocesses the data that needed and describes the methods and models for the thesis.chapter four analyzes the distribution of workplace and residence in Wuhan.Part three includes chapter five and chapter six which are the core of the thesis.Chapter five analyzes the matching condition in quantity and structure of workplace-residence in Wuhan.Chapter six discusses five kinds of mismatch of workplace and residence modes in polycentric spatial structure city.Firstly,using three hypothesis models to conduct mathematical statistics test to recognize Wuhan is a polycentic city.On the basis of ananlyzing the quantitative and structural mismatch in workplace-residence,this dissertation explores different types of workplace-residence matching modes of Wuhan's main centers and vice centers.The Monte Carlo simulation method is used to measure the commuting efficiency of the main and vice centers.Finally,based on the workplace-residence matching mode and commuting efficiency of the main and vice centers,and analysis the influence factors,the workplace-residence optimization strategies of the main and vice centers are proposed.Part four is chapter seven.The results of the above chapters are sorted out,as while as proposing the innovations,shortcomings and future prospects of the research.The significant findings of this dissertation include:(1)The polycentric spatial structure in Wuhan is outstanding.The main centers of Wuhan include Wuchang central activity area,Hankou central activity area and Hanyang central activity area.The functions of the three main centers are similar for the case of geographical isolation.The vice centers of Wuhan are distribute on Yangyuan group,Guanshan group,Baisha group,Tazihu group,the west new town group,and the north new town group.(2)The workplace-residence land matching structure and the job-housing population matching structure are diversity.The workplace-residence land matching structure in Wuhan shows as "six districts",there are a workplace domimanted area and a workplace-residence balance area in north and south of Changjiang River respectively.Heping street is a first level of residence dominated area,and the new urban districts are the second level of residence dominated area.For the job-housing population pattern,"one belt" represents the region along the Changjiang River which is the high employment population density area."five districts" represent the high employment population density area and the medium employment population density area in south of Changjiang,the high resident population density area and medium resident population density area in north of Changjiang,and the resident dominated area in new urban districts.(3)There are four types of workplace and residence mismatching pattern in the nine centers of Wuhan:Hankou central activity area and Hanyang central activity area are belongs to type ? which the workplace-residence quantity is balanced and the workplace-residence structure is relatively balanced,this type of areas have the characteristic that majority of people who live in local areas commute in Interior domains;Tazihu group,Yangyuan group and Baisha group are belongs to type ?which the workplace-residence quantity is balanced and the workplace-residence structure is not balanced,and this type of areas have the characteristic of two-way commuting;Guanshan group and Wuchang central activity area are belongs to type? which the workplace-residence quantity and structure are both not balanced.Two-way commuting or pendulum commuting are more obvious in this type of areas;the north new town group is belongs to type V which the workplace-residence quantity is not balanced but the workplace-residence structure is balanced,more people who live in this areas have to work in other place.(4)Based on the Urban Economy Basic Theory and Central Palce Theory,the dissertation analysis the influence the employment factors and service factors exerted on workplace-residence quantity matching degree and workplace-residence structrue matching degree.The results shows that:The basic employment and the low grade service exert greater effect on workplace-residence quantity matching and workplace-residence structrue matching.The basic employment exists high level,medium level and low level of significant correlation with workplace-residence land matching degree,job-housing population matching degree,and workplace-residence structure respectively.The non-basic employment has low level of significant correlation with job-housing population matching degree.The low grade service exert greater effect on workplace-residence quantity balance degree and workplace-residence structure balance degree.the high grade service only effect the job-housing population matching degree.
