The topics in the thesis are derived from the national program on the key basic research project(the 973 program)and commercial automotive styling design projects.As a design and design research problem,the automotive styling stance originates from the development of automotive engineering and styling,and the "styling stance" has a unique context of styling design.As an extremely important concept,the automotive styling stance is widely used in the process of design and evaluation of car styling schemes.However,the automotive styling stance,as a piece of expert knowledge in domain knowledge,has long been in an "unresolved" state.Therefore,we put forward the first research question of this thesis: What does the concept of automotive styling posture refer to? What are we talking about when it comes to automotive styling stance? How to define the concept of automobile styling stance,and to establish the framework of automobile styling stance.At the same time,differ from the cognitive factors such as shape,material and color,automotive styling stance conveys a special aesthetic meaning and performance,which is not only a sense of form spiritually and emotionally,but also has its characteristics and structural basis.Therefore,the second research question of this paper is: What is the cognitive significance of the automotive styling stance? How does the car styling stance convey their aesthetic meaning and expressiveness? How to establish the feature and semantic structure of the abstract concept of automotive styling stance,and to define the position in the process of meaning transmission and communication.In view of the above theoretical and practical problems,the author establishes the following research objectives: first,through the study of semantic acquisition and feature representation,to define the object,category and content of automotive styling stance,and to extract the representation framework of automotive styling stance;second,through the study of the semantic and feature relationship of automotive styling stance,to define the abstract concept of automotive styling stance;Thirdly,to provide ways and method basis for automotive styling stance design on methodology level,and to put forward the operable stance design method and process.The whole idea and principle of this paper is the combination of the theoretical basis and factual basis.In the part of theoretical research,the "literature research method" is mainly used.Among them,according to the literature research,it is considered that the cognitive basis of stance is automobile engineering and historical evolution;the acquisition method and process of automotive styling stance semantic pool are constructed;the tools and methods of image expression and meaning acquisition of stance semantic words are constructed by combining the knowledge of semiotics,imagery thinking and thinking externalized representation;ideas for feature simplification and stance feature extraction are provided by the study of the classification of automobile styling features and automobile styling ontology knowledge;the research framework of stance feature form and meaning matching constructed by combining "visual analogy";the embodied recognition modes constructed by combining cognitive linguistics and embodied cognition theory;the style prototype framework constructed by combining "event domain cognitive model" and prototype recognition theory.In the part of the case study,"investigation method" and "case analysis method" are mainly used."Research method" includes "Research on ten generations of S-class sedans of Mercedes Benz Museum",which is field research on automobile styling stance and history conducted by the author in Europe."Case analysis method" includes "E200 electric vehicle advanced concept design",which are design cases participated by the author.In the part of experimental research,this paper mainly adopts "questionnaire method" and "experimental method",including "exploratory pre-experiment of acquiring automotive styling stance semantic pool","word clustering experiment of automotive styling stance semantic pool","image matching experiment of automotive styling stance feature group","semantic-feature association experiment","style prototype experiment",five experiments in total.Combined with the practice of design cases and experiments,the author established and constantly improved the research methodology.By continuously promoting the research process,the actual theoretical framework and model are put forward.The main research results are summarized as follows:Firstly,the semantic pool and semantic category modes of the automotive styling stance are established by using the experimental method and case method.The basic cognitive characteristics of the automotive styling stance are put forward and the way semantic transferred into imagery is discussed.This,indeed,clarifies the objects,categories,and contents of the automotive styling stance provides a data basis and a conceptual basis for research and explores how theoretical research can be implemented in design practice.85 stance semantics are obtained and the semantic pool is constructed.The study further established the semantic category modes("dynamic and tensile","vehicle types","emotion","behavior" and "geometry"),and extracted the representative semantic dimensions(37 words)of the automotive styling stance semantic pool.It is proposed that "dynamic","tensile" and "aggressive" are the "basic cognitive characteristics"(BCC.)of automotive styling stance.This thesis studies and establishes a mood board composed of the scene layer,the feature layer and the form layer from top to bottom,pointing out that the semantics and imagery of automotive styling stance is a complete design process of "put forward imagery to express meaning",forming a mode and logic of design cognition and design thinking.Secondly,the literature research and experimental methods are used to propose the features of the styling stance and the relationship modes between the features,and the characterization framework of automotive styling stance.21 stance feature indexes were defined and established using the "automotive styling stance plane"(enclosing plane)as a method for feature simplification and extraction;the feature and semantic relationship between the feature combination("front mask inclination,rear mask inclination")and the styling stance("aggressive stance,defensive stance")were studied,and the differences between cognition and semantics of the styling stance in the four states of feature combination were found.There are differences in stance cognition effects between individual features and feature combinations.the image activation effect of sport category pictures on styling stance design are affirmed,as well as the reasoning role of visual analogy in automotive styling stance recognition;the “Embodied Recognition Mode”(ERM)of automotive styling stance is proposed,which provides a “ structure ” basis for the research of automotive styling stance,are also the psychological basis for the generation of the concept of automotive styling stance.Among them,the embodied recognition mode of the human body is the psychological basis for vehicle relationship by vertical division,and the embodied recognition mode of the animal body is the psychological basis for vehicle relationship by horizontal division.Thirdly,using the method of literature research and experiment,the style prototype of the automotive styling stance is constructed as an expression form of abstract concept structure of the automotive styling stance.This paper puts forward that automotive styling stance is a cognitive problem in event domain,the realistic level of event(Bi)is the object of automotive exterior,the cognitive level is the automotive styling stance feature index,and the language level is the name of the feature,and establishes the relatively stable relationship between each styling stance feature index and styling stance semantics through experiments;this paper puts forward a relatively complete and logical coding mechanism,which is composed of three sets of "feature combination"(Fi)and "prototype semantics"(Si)of "shape meaning matching"(Pi).Thus,the extraction table and prototype diagram of styling stance style prototype of nine types of car are obtained;the research points out that there are both consistency and difference between feature groups and prototype semantics;the research also finds that there are two phenomena of "derivative" and "cross-over" in the stance of different vehicle types.Fourthly,this paper summarizes the cognitive level and research methods of the automotive styling stance and puts forward the design communication methodology model,design method and process of automotive styling stance.The research puts forward "the cognitive level of automotive styling stance" as the structural cognitive paradigm of automotive styling stance;In this study,three characteristics of "meaning" communication of automotive styling stance information are proposed,and a design communication methodology model of automotive styling stance is established,moreover,this study reveals that "meaning" communication is not only an interactive cycle between cognitive subject and object but also an exchange and reflection process of cognitive behavior and implicit thinking.Specifically speaking,on the one hand,meaning interpretation of automotive styling stance is constantly changing,dynamic and derivative;however,on the other hand,meaning interpretation remains unchanged,with specific prototype cognition and instinctive psychological basis;In this paper,two design methods of automotive styling stance are put forward,i.e."express emotion in visual mode" and "express visual mode in car styling",and the design process of automotive styling stance based on "meaning transfer" is constructed.In conclusion,through a series of research,this paper defines the object,category and content(semantic pool,semantic category mode,basic cognitive characteristics)of automotive styling stance;extracts and establishes the representation framework of automotive styling stance(automotive styling stance characteristics,automotive styling stance feature combination,embodied recognition mode);defines the characteristics and semantic structure(form-meaning pairing and style prototype)of automotive styling stance;establish a structured cognitive paradigm of automobile modeling(cognitive level);and explore the status and characteristics of automotive styling stance in the process of meaning communication(purity,subtlety,connectivity).The above is the theoretical innovation of this paper.In this paper,the mood board of high-level semantic visual representation proposed;The "derivation" and "cross-over" phenomena of styling provide ideas and logic for dealing with stance design under the innovative package;the design communication methodology model of automotive styling stance is established;two design methods of "express emotion in visual mode" and "express visual mode in car styling" are proposed,and the design process of automotive styling stance based on "meaning transfer" is constructed.The above is the method innovation of this paper.
