A Study Of Mid-Face Aging By Ultrasonography

Background:Mid-face aging is a complex process of multiple layers,including bone,supporting ligaments,mimetic muscles,fat tissue,dermal tissue,etc.At present,there is a lack of quantitative data of morphological research on mid-face aging.Clinically,there are problems with the operation of mid-face injectable rejuvenation such as the depth of injection,excessive filling,or insufficient filling.Therefore,the purpose of this study is to obtain quantitative data on the changes of the thickness of mid-face in Chinese healthy adult women under ultrasonography and to provide a reference of the depth of mid-face injection for the plastic surgeon.Methods:In this study,a total of 73 healthy adult females were performed B-ultrasound imaging.The thickness of dermal tissue,superficial fat tissue,and total soft tissue at 18 points in the mid-face were measured.The data were analyzed to find the symmetry of the mid-face and how thickness of each layer is changing along with aging.Results:The texture of the dermis and superficial fat layer in the elderly group is rougher and fuzz on ultrasound than in the young group.There is no statistically significant result on the symmetry of each layer in the mid-face.The thickness of the dermal layer does not change significantly along with aging.The thickness of the superficial fat layer in the lower third of the mid-face increases along with aging.The total thickness of soft tissues in the lower eyelid area and nasolabial fold area increases along with aging.This study also summarizes the injection data of vertical depth of different layers in the mid-face.Conclusion:Along with aging,the superficial fat tissue in the mid-face will thicken,and the whole soft tissues will shift downward and inward.The quantitative data of average vertical injection depth to the dermis layer,superficial fat layer,mimetic muscle layer,and bone surface are provided,which will help the plastic surgeon to perform cosmetic injection procedures.
