?DuTongJianLun?is a representative book on historical comment by Wang Fuchih. It was openly published in 1860s and then highly admired by the great mind of China until 1920s.The thinkers were unanimous that the book contains both abundant and creative thought and therefore is worth researching greatly.Unfortunately, the book has not been investigated pointedly and systematically by academia since its publication. This situation is not only harmful to the research on?DuTongJianLun?itself, but also bad to the research of Wang Fuchih's thought on the whole. Therefore,it is highly necessary that we do pointed and systematical studies on the book of?DuTongJianLun?,and our dissertation is an attempt to do this. The thesis holds that?DuTongJianLun?is a book of philosophical history centering on the concept of RenDao.Wang Fuchih conveyed his metaphysical views on the Chinese history from Qin dynasty to the future through this book, thereinto RenDao is a key concept on understanding the whole Chinese history. In Wang Chuanshan's view, the history after Qin dynasty is a whole that could be understood?interpreted and expected with historical significance——RenDao.RenDao dominates the origin and process of Chinese history, and the Chinese history is the progress and achievement of RenDao.In?DuTongJianLun?,we can see how RenDao makes progress in the history. The dissertation is made up of five chapters:Firstly, analyze the historical features, writing goal and the relationship between Jing(philosophy)and Shi(history)in the book of?DuTongJianLun?.In the first place, the thesis regards the content of the book as an organic whole, and makes a comparative study of its differences with the former?ZiZhiTongJian?and(ZiZhiTongJianGangMu?in the nature of historical conception.Learning this,we can start with a general understanding of the historical features and styles of?DuTongJianLun?and lay a foundation for our understanding of the book.Following this,we will analyze and discuss the writing purpose of the book.Chuanshan wrote the books of historical comments in his later years with clear intent. So what is the intent?A clear writing goal of that book can provide good foundation for the following in-depth studies on?DuTongJianLun?.Basically, the contents of the following chapters of the paper is to expand the purpose of writing the book. Finally,we will analyze the relationship between Jing and Shi.Secondly, elaborate the four dimensions of the "RenDao" political ideology in?DuTongJianLun?.We will follow the theme of the book and elaborate its political ideal centering on RenDao in detail and specifically. In the past, many scholars claimed that they could find the design and planning of the political system in Chuanshan's works such as(DuTongJianLun?,and made a system of modern Western political model for Chuanshan.Unlike them,we believe that Chuanshan did not have a set of clear?fixed and unified political system for the future. In order to prove this view,we first explain and define the concept of RenDao,then deepen the connotation of the four basic dimensions of Chuanshan's RenDao political ideal.Thirdly, expound the embodiment of "RenDao " ideology in the three levels of the doctrine of monarchs, the doctrine of liegeman and the governance.?DuTongJianLun?is of course a historical work, but its historical purpose is not and can not be pointed to history itself;the study of political thought also accounts for a large proportion in that book, which is mainly derived from another book(ZiZhiTongJian?.In other words,?DuTongJianLun?carries a lot of political and ideological content, but is covered by the“coat”of historical comment. In the past, scholars rarely made a special and in-depth analysis of the political thought of this book.We will discuss the political views of Chuanshan thought from the three levels of the doctrine of monarch, the doctrine of liegeman and the governance in order to show the manifestation of the RenDao ideals.Fourthly, discuss the embodiment of "RenDao" ideology in two aspects of political systems and culture&education. All kinds of political systems are characteristics of?DuTongJianLun?,but it is a pity that few of the predecessors discussed them.Chuangshan's exposition of the systems is not a matter of discussion. He investigated and elaborated those systems with a historical vision connecting the era before and after Chuanshan. He believes that some of the systems in Xia?Shang and Zhou dynasties can only be a product of history and can not be practiced in later times;but some pre-Qin systems can still be implemented in some certain situations.Chuanshan had great admiration for the ancient kings, convincing that what they said and done could be applied to the dynasties after--Qin history permanently. There is an interesting tension between the three dynasties(Xia?Shang and Zhou)and their later history. In addition,Chuanshan put much emphasis on other ideological thought of the confucianism, meanwhile,he had a firm belief in the passing of RenDao ideology by confucians.Lastly, summarize the theoretical basis of the "RenDao" in the book of?DuTongJianLun?.Although academia discussed a lot about the concepts of Li?Shi and their relationship, their views and conclusions were almost from the whole works of Chuanshan instead of the book of?DuTongJianLun?.In?DuTongJianLun?,the concepts of Li and Shi not only appear many times, but their respective meaning is not as single as previously said.In fact,Li has three meanings, and Shi has five meaning s.Moreover, the relationship between Li and Shi is not commonly considered as a two-way.
