Social categorization(categorization)is the basis of group cognitive and impression evaluation,it helps human understanding the world,it also brings the "dark side" of human understanding-intergroup bias.Crossed categorization as an intervention strategy of intergroup bias refers to the group-relevant social judgments, the social categorization simultaneously in two or more categories dimensions, formed in on more than one category in-group and out-group cross dimensions of group identity.Stereotypes as cognitive basis of intergroup bias,it is not only cognitive schemata having a group of people sharing groups within the perspective of others formed in-groups,including the competence and warmth two basic dimensions, and,it is people's meaningful cognitive biases(bias)of social groups, which reflect the true composition of perceived intergroup relations, bias component to maintain good social identity.Existing research found that crossed categorization not only can reduce the stereotypes, may also enhance the stereotype, this contradiction conclusions that may exist for several reasons:firstly, specific type, there is no distinction between crossed categorization, such as increasing in-group identity within the crossed categorization and increasing out-group identity within the crossed categorization;secondly, there is no baseline measurements before the crossed categorization of one-dimensional stereotype;Third, there is no distinction between the different stages of crossed categorization.According to the "social self" concept of self-categorization theory, proposed in this study, emphasis on the classical two-dimensional crossed categorization(crossed categorization of the first stage)influence of stereotypes, boundary effect, and cognitive processing mechanism. The main results of the study are as follows:The first research(experiment 1,2,3):a research study on the impact of cross categorization on stereotype content evaluation.A study of female college students were tested, using the"Students-migrant workers" and "male-female" or "Red Team-green team" to cross-classify using exon(Experiment 1)or implicit(experiment 2,3)the method of measuring stereotypes,one-dimensional baseline level determined outside groups, and measure the effect of crossed categorization. The results show that:cross categorization has a positive impact on the warmth and morality,it had no effect on the competence to influence the nature of the ingroup identity, but also disturbed by category information. The second research(experiment4,5,6):Investigation the boundary conditions of cross categorization's positive role, participants were female college students. And a study is different, experiment 4 Students were divided into high and low group identity, experiment 5,6 manipulated within the college student in-group identity. The results show that:the cross categorization has a positive impact on the warmth, morality, the competence to influence the nature of group identity within;when identity within the college student in-group is high, positive role in the competence and morality dimension will disappear or reverse. The third research(Experimental 7,8,9):To study the cross categorization the classification of an active role in cognitive processing mechanism, the subjects were male and female university students.Experiment 7 measured the effect of the crossed categorization of self-stereotyping and self-anchoring,experimental 8 manipulation of self-stereotyping and self-anchoring,and measure the stereotype of partly groups(OI),the experimental manipulation of 9 self-anchoring artificial dimension. The results show that:the crossed categorization promotes the self and cross dimension within the in-group self-anchoring and self-stereotyping;and self-anchoring and self-stereotyping also affect the stereotype of partly group,self-anchoring and self-stereotyping become crossed categorization influence Stereotype processing mechanism.Overall conclusions are as follows:(1)single-dimensional outgroup stereotype as a baseline comparison, crossed categorization affect stereotype content evaluation, has a positive impact on the warmth, competence and morality, the nature of the effects of group identity within the cross dimension, but this positive effect will be disturbed by category information.(2)under conditions of high in-group identity, positive impact on the crossed categorization crossing competence and morality disappear,or have the opposite effect.(5)cross categorization as a "improve ingroup-outgroup classify significant factor",by affecting self-stereotyping and self-anchoring change the individual's self-awareness,self within a shared cross-community dimension with others, there is a corresponding change in the stereotype content ratings for others.
