Imported revenue-sharing movies have undergone over 20 years of development in China since the first revenue-sharing movie The Fugitive was released in China in1994.Over these 20-odd years,imported revenue-sharing movies witness and get involved in the transformation of Chinese movies from a self-closed planned economic system to a modern,open market economic system,and participate in the entire process of global movie market competition.Imported revenue-sharing movies have an influence on the environment of the Chinese movie industry and film production mechanism as well as Chinese politics,economy,culture,lifestyle,values and so forth to a varying degree.This article sorted out and summarized imported revenue-sharing movies' relevant policies,historical nodes,social response,and the relationship with the development of China 's film industry over the past two decades,and discussed the profound influences of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters on the pattern of Chinese movie industry,movie concepts,movie mechanism,and how Chinese movies energetically exploit overseas markets,maintain national cultural security and improve cultural soft power in the era of globalization while making local movie markets bigger and stronger.The whole article is broken into five parts.Chapter one reviewed the history of foreign movies released in China,the emergence of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters and its background,and the 1980s' Hollywood's exploitation on the Chinese movie industry.Chapter two is about the 20 years of history and policy evolution of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters in China.This chapter divided the history of imported revenue-sharing in China into three stages with time as a meridian,policy evolvement as a parallel and major events as nodes.Next,this chapter combined macro background of social development with reform of movie system to explore the course where imported revenue-sharing blockbusters entered into China,what kind of history and social context made it happen,what are nodes and characteristics of this course,and the interaction between movie introduction system and the whole society and the movie industry.Chapter three is the analysis of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters.This chapter sorted out nationalities and contents of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters over the two decades,and then categorized these revenue-sharing blockbusters by genre and theme.Through analysis of their box office and text analysis,this chapter analyzed the genres and themes of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters that are popular in China,and discussed the Americanism represented by America and political,economic and cultural forces implicitly carried in films.Besides Hollywood pictures,this chapter will analyze and summarize Asian movies among revenue-sharing movies and discuss factors that influence the importing of films,including policy,text,and ideology.Chapter four,imported revenue-sharing blockbusters have a profound impact on our pattern of filmdom.Imported revenue-sharing blockbusters are the most important catalyst for great changes of Chinese movies,for they develop,improve and change the way Chinese movie audience watch movies and their attitude and taste regarding movies,and they profoundly influence and change investment pattern,production concept,distribution model,marketing strategy of Chinese movie market,promoting the industrialization of the Chinese movie industry.Of course,when we see imported revenue-sharing blockbusters bring great opportunities to Chinese movie industry,we should also see that confined by powerful ideological attribute of imported blockbusters,the entrance into China's mainland's market is always accompanied by the invasion to Chinese cultural security,thus bringing out cultural concerns and industrial crisis.The last part is the summary of the article.Chinese movies' importing of revenue-sharing blockbusters have experienced 23 years of development till 2017.Over these 23 years,the Chinese movie industry and Chinese filmmakers have experienced panic,competition,adaption,adjustment,and even synergetic linkage.“Dancing with wolves” like this is a stage inevitable to of the industrialization of the Chinese movie industry,but it is merely an initial stage.In the future,both quantity and quality of imported revenue-sharing blockbusters will increase,but problems left to Chinese filmmakers are far from over.
