A Study On The Evolution Of The Revolutionary Historical Narrative In Contemporary Novels (1949-2010)

Revolutionary historical narration as a significant genre in Chinese literature has greatly impacted on contemporary history of literature.This thesis will take the evolution and change of revolutionary historical narration as i ts primary goal and then explore how factors such as ideology,aesthetics,readers’reception,marketing,authors’ identity,conception of history and so on have affected and restricted the generation and variation of revolutionary historical narration.As a result,the forms and features of revolutionary historical narration in different periods will be analyzed and the correspondent narration changing track will be reconstructed.Meanwhile,the experiences and lessons of revolutionary historical narration will be summarized.Furthermore,the thesis will probe into the dilemma and solution of revolutionary historical narration,attempting to unveil the cultural meaning of it.The thesis is divided into three parts.They are introduction,the main body which includes five chapters and conclusion.The respective contents of each parts are as follows:Introduction is involved with core concepts,meaning and research status of the thesis,trying to find new academic growth points.In addition,research methods and thoughts will be displayed.Chapter One is related to the development stages of revolutionary historical narration in terms of narrative time,narrative structure,narrative modes,narrative strategies,narrative subjects and so on,trying to probe into the forms and features of revolutionary historical narration in each stage and display the inner verbal conflicts as well as the cultural meaning embodied in it.The experiences and lessons of revolutionary historical narration in each stage will also be summarized and the changing track will subsequently be unveiled.Chapter Two mainly centers around the manifestation of revolutionary historical narration.Heroic discourse,the origin of revolution,and feminine awareness have evolved alongside with revolutionary historical narration and featured in different cultural contexts.A further discussion will revolve around the implied spiritual essence,cultural appeal and their limitations behind the writings.Chapter Three is mostly about the evolution of revolutionary historical narration based on cultural vision.The generation of contemporary revolutionary historical narration will be explored in terms of political culture,writers’ identity and conception of history,trying to analyze to what extend and degree they have impacted on revolutionary historical narration and what drawbacks they have under each cultural constraints.Chapter Four concentrates on the dilemma and solution of revolutionary historical narration.The dilemma lies in the sheltered historical narration and limited historical reflection.The solution tends to probe into the potential dimension of Chinese revolutionary historical narration in contrast to world literature.Based on this,the path and method for revolutionary historical narration to follow will be put forward.Chapter Five will discuss the cultural meaning of revolutionary historical narration.Questions like whether the novels can record the history,what they record,how they record it and so on will be elaborated in terms of memory.Thus,a comprehensive conclusion about the meaning of revolutionary historical narration will be obtained.The Conculsion part will look over the landscape of contemporary revolutionary historical narration in a macroscopic way and further probe into the development path of revolutionary historical narration.
