Research On The Controller Of Etiquette And Customs In Rural Society

In rural society,villagers will play different folk roles in different fields of life based on the actual needs of life.The collaboration and close cooperation among different folk roles are the prerequisite for the implementation of various folk systems and the important guarantee for the orderly operation of rural society.The controller of etiquette and customs is one of the most important folk roles in rural society.The so called controller of etiquette and customs is the controller who control and manage the etiquette and custom ceremony,such as the ritual controller and the psychic.They can command and dominate others with their own experience and ability.They gained high prestige and reputation through offering assistance to others for free.In Dahua village,the ritual controller and the psychic are the most important controller of etiquette and customs.At present,we have made a thorough and extensive research on the folk elites such as the patriarchs and village cadres,but the study on the controller of etiquette and custom is still relatively lacking.So I want to have a reflection and deeply rethinking about the controller of etiquette and customs through recording and analyzing their personal narrative in detail.Specifically,this paper focuses on the following issues.As the controller of etiquette and customs who have high prestige and certain responsibility to regulate the social order,what social status do they have?What are the differences and similarities between the controller of etiquette and customs and the traditional folk authority such as the patriarch and the grass-roots political folk authority such as village cadres?How does the controller of etiquette and customs be shaped?How do they deal with the other villagers in their daily life?What role do they play in the Dahua village?What is their life meaning and value pursuit?What role does personal narrative play in the process of the controller of etiquette and customs shaping and the social order regulating?This study attempts to achieve the following two objectives.Firstly,I will write an folklore ethnography to record and analyze the interaction process between the controller of etiquette and customs and other villagers.Their life meaning,value pursuit,and the strategy they use in specific folk fields are reflected in the interactive process.Secondly,I will deeply analyze the relationship between folk roles,folk system and personal narrative,how do they jointly construct the process of village order.The innovation of this paper is mainly embodied in the following three aspects.Firstly,this article focuses on the controller of etiquette and customs,makes up for the lack of academic research on folk authority in the field of private life.Secondly,this paper payed attention to the daily communication and practice activities in the presence of the body,focused on the "human" as the main body of practice in village life.Thirdly,I payed attention to the purpose and function of personal narrative.It tries to understand the construction process of social relations and order in villages from the daily use of personal narrative,thus expanding the life horizon of folk narrative research to a certain extent.This paper is divided into six parts,the specific structure is as follows.The first part is the introduction.In this part,I elaborated the reasons for choosing the topic,combed the relevant academic research results,and explained the research purpose,research methods,research significance and the source of information in this paper.In chapter1,I described the historical tradition and folk system in Dahua village,these folk systems are important link between the controller of etiquette and customs and other villagers,and also an important guarantee for the operation of village social order.Then I described the controller of etiquette and customs and the field in which they play a role,analyzed the intern relationship between the great transformation in rural society from 1980s and the appearance of controller of etiquette and customs.In chapter2,focused on an accident that happened during the temple festival in Dahua village,I described and analyzed the performance and personal narrative of the ritual controller and the psychic on ceremonial occasions,and their tackling strategy.The performance and personal narrative on ceremonial occasions plays an very important role in the folk role shaping process.The third chapter described in detail the specific interaction process between the controller of etiquette and customs and other villagers in daily life,and analyzed their role in the daily life.Their life meaning and value pursuit all reflected in this process.In addition,the establishment of mutually beneficial and mutually supportive relationship with villagers has gradually accumulated their ability of human relations,face and social mobilization.Chapter4 described the mutual evaluation process between etiquette and custom controllers and villagers,and analyzed the role of etiquette and custom controllers in the formation of family and village tradition.Personal narrative plays an important role in regulating villagers’ words and deeds and forming the marginalization mechanism of villages.It is also an important basis for the formation of good family and village tradition.In the conclusion part,based on the folklore ethnography,I analyzed the intern relationship between the folk system,folk role,personal narrative and social order in the village community,described the prestige and reputation accumulating process of the controller of etiquette and customs,and their life meaning,value pursuit.
