From Corporate Freedom To Corporate Social Responsibility

“It is easy to dodge our responsibilities,but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.”Although there are tons of thousands of research on corporate social responsibility(CSR),it turns out to be an academic cliché,unfortunately the disclosure of “Vaccine scandal”,“False Egg” warns us that how to improve our CSR performance is an urgent topic and there are a lot of room for the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility.All of these suggest that there must be some deficiency undermining the theory of corporate social responsibility.Although it is helpful to drive corporations to take their responsibilities from the point of responsibility,we still argue that we should improve our CSR performance from the perspective of right.Obviously,while we analyze the CSR related problems,the right of freedom and responsibility should be taken into consideration simultaneously,because there is a tight correspondence between right and responsibility.The neglect of the right of freedom in the theory on corporate social responsibility will not be beneficial to solve the problem of corporate unethical behaviors.Therefore,based on the relationship between corporate freedom and corporate social responsibility this thesis tries to explore how to motivate corporations to take their responsibility more spontaneously.Once corporate freedom has been included in the research,it is natural to find the external constraints around corporations(such as property system,administrative intervention,government's role and market environment)will definitely have great influence on corporate freedom,and then have further influence on the strategic decision-making process of corporate ethical behavior,which is closely related to the fulfillment of their social responsibility and leads to the research of “institutions”----the core domain of CSR related problems.So,the arguments in this thesis are based on corporate freedom,concentrating on the basic structure and dynamic relations which comes from “corporate external constraints”----“corporate freedom”----“corporate social responsibility and its fulfillment”.After introducing the origin of research topic,we go through analyses which had been made on the research on corporate freedom and corporate social responsibility,it is natural to draw a conclusion that it is necessary to analyze the CSR performance from the point of corporate freedom.Then,corporate freedom,corporate social responsibility and their relationship have been discussed thoroughly.Exploring from the four points of subject,boundary,constraints(in a narrow sense),realization path of corporate freedom,corporate freedom has been analyzed and defined.On this basis,corporate social responsibility has also been analyzed and explored from the four points of subject,object,scope and content.Besides,from the corporate nature this thesis highlights the importance of corporate freedom in the process of corporate development,further illustrates the corporate freedom deficiency in China,and discusses its consequences on CSR performance and figures out the causes of corporate freedom deficiency.Based on the status quo of the CSR performance the thesis illustrates that how the CSR related problems have been influenced by the deficiency of corporate freedom theoretically and empirically.Firstly,the formal definition of corporate social responsibility released by our government proves the endless efforts made by the government;Secondly,the status quo of our corporate social responsibility performance has been described;Finally,the arguments on the negative influence of corporate freedom deficiency have been stated theoretically and empirically,which holds that only under the condition of moderate reasonable bundles of constraints can corporate freedom help corporations to choose ethical behavior and then take their responsibilities more spontaneously,emphasizing the importance of corporate freedom on the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility.Finally,on the basis of the discussion and analysis of the prior research mentioned,the chapter proposes some suggestions on how to improve the CSR performance in China from the point of corporate freedom,and visualizes future CSR fulfillment in China from the four aspects: the constructing of property system,the accelerating of institutional reform,the refreshing of government's role and the developing of market economy.It is a strategic behavioral decision-making process that we help corporations to move from corporate freedom to corporate social responsibility.Based on analyzing the relationship between freedom and responsibility,the relationship between corporate freedom and corporate social responsibility has been discussed and explored.Therefore,we must take both into consideration in the corporate ethical decision-making process.With analyzing corporate freedom from subject,constraint,boundary and realization path;and analyzing corporate social responsibility from subject,object,scope and content,then it is natural to set forth the viewpoint that only under the condition of moderate reasonable bundles of constraints can corporations fully enjoy their freedom,and then shoulder their social responsibility more actively,which helps corporations to choose ethical behavior and provides the motives source for their social responsibility;which helps corporations to make more contributions to our society,our human beings and our well-being.
