The Study Of Mou Tsung-San's Logical Thought

Mou Tsung-San was known as one of the representative figures of the second generation of modern New Confucianism.Compared with Liang Shuming and Xiong Shili,who were his predecessors,Mou Tsung-San had a more profound deposits in Western philosophy.His deposits of western philosophy not only lied in his understanding of western philosophical schools,but also based on his profound logical attainments.However,it is a pity that since the end of the 20 th century,the study of Mou Tsung-San's thoughts had gradually become prominent,and the thematic study of Mou Tsung-San's logic thoughts was still very rare.In order to fill the corresponding academic vacuum,this thesis tried to make a comprehensive and systematic explanation and analysis of Mou Tsung-San's logical thought from the aspects of logical philosophy,formal logic,dialectics,“Mingli” thoughts and so on.This thesis found that there was a unique structure of two clues in Mou Tsung-San's logical thoughts.Among them,one was to establish the rationalist logic view through the bottom-up logical philosophy inquiry.The other was to define and evaluate the discipline of logic and its branches,directions and theories from top to bottom based on this view of logic.Based on this discovery,the first chapter of this thesis mainly explained the constructive process of the transcendentalism and rationalism view of logic as the core and starting point of Mou Tsung-San's logic theory.The second chapter introduced Mou Tsung-San's distinction between the formal logic and the inductive method,and his unique analysis of the development of the formal logic.The third chapter mainly revealed the process of Mou Tsung-San's inquiry into the essence of dialectics,which was different from the formal logic and the inductive method,through the reflection of "peeling off the bananas layer by layer".The fourth chapter presented Mou Tsung-San's views on the development of Chinese logical mind and intellectual spirit by combing his interpretation of “Mingli” thoughts.This thesis held that Mou Tsung-San still showed his unique views in the studies of logic,and his logic thought had its comprehensiveness,systematicness and uniqueness,although there were some shortcomings and some points which needed some discussing.Whether in the construction of his own academic ideological system,or in the formation and development of the whole modern neo-Confucianism,or even in the history of the development of Chinese logical thought,Mou Tsung-San's logical thought had its value and significance to be further studied and discussed.
