The present dissertation, situated within the theoretical framework of descriptive translation studies(DTS)and corpus-based translation studies(CTS),made a comparative study of the three full English translations and two episodes English translations of San Guo Yan Yi.A combination of quantitative statistics method & qualitative analysis method are applied to present a panoramic description of native language translators' translations on three ascending levels: word, sentence and chapter. And then based on the findings, the dissertation proposes the Chinese-English translation strategies from the perspective of the advantage of the mother tongue, hoping to provide some references for Chinese literature translation into English.A quantitative comparative study of the English translation corpus of San Guo Yan Yi composed of three full English translations and four episodes English translations is made to find out the distinctive features of native language translators compared with non-native language translators on three ascending levels: word, sentence and chapter. The study on word level covers the following correlated sections, including types, tokens, high frequency words, distinctive words, and unique words. The study on sentence level involves the first words of sentences,"ing" forms of nonfinite verbs and punctuation marks. While the last level chapter study focuses on the textual cohesion of the native language translators compared with non-native language translators. The study on the word level shows that compared with those of nonnative language translators, native language translators' translations have more tokens, types, and distinctive words. The study on sentence level shows that the sentence structures of native language translators are more complex than those of non-native language translators, avoiding the relative unity of sentence structure. The study chapter level shows that from the perspective of the higher frequency of the pronoun it,native language translators are more cohesive compared with those of non-native language translators. The present study makes a qualitative analysis from the four perspectives, namely battle scene description, verbs, negative words, and natural environment description, hoping to find out the distinctive features of native language translators compared with non-native language translators from the perspective of qualitative description research, and based on the findings, the Chinese-English translation strategies from the perspective of the advantage of the mother tongue are proposed. The present study can be innovative in three aspects.First, the selfbuilt corpus includes not only the classic English translations of San Guo Yan Yi,but also the first full English translation by a Chinese, the version of Yu Sumei.Second, compared with previous studies, the present study intends to conduct a comparative study on the English translations of San Guo Yan Yi from the perspective of the advantage of mother tongue, with a view to discovering the distinctive features of native language translators compared with non-native language translators.Third, based on the distinctive features of native translators compared with non-native language translators, the present study proposes the translation strategies for Chinese literature translation into English, hoping to provide references for Chinese culture going out, especially for Chinese literature translation.
