On How Light Of Popular Literary And Artistic Publication Spreads And Implements The Spirit Of The Speech At Yan'an Symposium On Literature And Art

On October 19 th,1943,Liberation Daily,on the topic of The Speech at the Yan'an Symposium on Literature and Art(called The Speech whereafter),formally issued Mao Zedong's two speeches during Yan'an Symposium on Literature and Art in May,1942.The Speech with its core spirit,laying a solid foundation for the education as well as the culture and art work of distant areas,still functions as the major resources for national ideology,literary and artistic creation as well as research work up to now.However,both the establishing of the order and the promoting of standards and principles are not easy to achieve in one step.Instead,it needed supports through literary struggles outside and unification of the thought inside.Luckily,the journal Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication launched in 1948 contributed a lot as a significant power providing the very supports.In spite of its importance role mentioned above,Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication has not been given enough attention in both historical narratives and literature research due to its short-time launching duration,being distant from the political and cultural centers,low publishing rate as well as its inferior status to the Speech.On top of that,the complicated relations between Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication and The Speech have not been deeply and sufficiently researched yet.For the sake of bridging the existing research gap,this paper basing on the real data and the literature text,aims to explain the significant function of Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication in the process of accepting and spreading of the Speech spirit as well as objectively evaluate its value and IV significance in the history of Modern and Contemporary Literature.Chapter one,based on the political and cultural context and the launching background,introduces the relations between Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication and The Speech through collecting data so as to identify the journal's status and clarify its internal relations with The Speech,which paves the way for the later part of this research.Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication,directly led by Zhonggong Nanfang Bureau(Southern Bureau of CPC),launched by the left-wing literature and art writers,intended to spread The Speech spirit,establish the new literary and art orientation for people as well as to construct a new literature order as The Speech described.Chapter Two focuses on the external criticism and cleanup,that is,to clean up the The Speech spirit spreading barriers.This chapter,through setting Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication into the literature of 1940 s and reading the text intensively,analyzes how the journal carried out the criticism and cleaning up for the literature and art in Guotong Areas,which involved the works of bourgeois intellectuals and liberal intellectuals such as Shen Congwen,Zhu Guangqian and Xiao Qian so that the spreading barriers of the Speech spirit could be cleared out.The changes of their thoughts and attitudes towards the criticisms are investigated and the effectiveness of the criticism and clean-up are summarized as well.Chapter Three,through setting Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication into the historical framework of the left-wing literature development and following the standards of The Speech,discusses the inner disagreements on The Speech spirit among the left-wing literature circle,the resolution of the research disagreements and the establishment of the united front.It further points out that only the appropriate understanding of the Speech spirit and the clear recognition of Mao Zedong's thought on the literary and art united front could develop the inner criticism among left-wing literary and art circles.Chapter Four discusses the interpretation and implementation of The Speech.The literary and artistic construction of Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication centering the Speech are also summarize and analyzed.Firstly,grasping the changes of the details,shaping the typical progressive writers and the model authors with The Speech spirit;Secondly,straightening the public construction of literary and art,deeply discussing public construction of literary and art,propagating public literary and art of Yan'an and summarizing experiences and deficiency in Yan'an Literature were carried out;Thirdly,publishing and introducing literary and artistic works in liberated areas,practising The Speech spirit,and advocating the orientation in the literary and artistic creation of The Speech were implemented as well.Chapter Five summarizes the literature history significance and reflection of Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication.The specific value of Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication is identified at the text level.Its historical significance at the turning point is analyzed from both the literally and the horizontally.The journal's literary value was embodied in the artistic value of the publishing works and the potential formed critical model.Although the critical model needed reflection,it greatly promoted the spread and acceptance of The Speech in Guotong Area and deeply influenced the artistic creation in this area.During the transformation from modern literature to contemporary literature,the journal Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication has formed a direct influence on the literary form since the founding of new China.It can also be considered as a leading experiment for literary and art ideology and policy in new China and a preview performance of integration of art and literature after the founding of new China.In conclusion,the journal Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication and The Speech are internally united,which together target at the new orientation of literary and art for new people and the construction of new literary system.The former functions as the product practicing and propagating the latter one,while the latter one plays the leading role for the former one.That is to say,Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication was lunched aiming at spreading,propagating and practicing The Speech spirit and realizing the literary and art ideology of The Speech at the same time.The true significance and value of Light of Popular Literary and Artistic Publication lies in its contributions to literary criticism and construction activities through closely centering the Speech spirit,which paved the way for transformation of modern literature and formation of the new literature system after the foundation of the People's Republic of China.
