China’s advertising history or in the horizontal comparison with the advertising industry of the colonial and semi colonial countries of the same era,is rich and complex.As an important means of information retention and dissemination,modern newspaper advertisements reflect and retain the historical process of urban modernization such as social and cultural environment,art and aesthetics at that time.Harbin is a very representative city in the process of modern China’s modernization.With the struggle of colonization and sovereignty independence,under the impact of multiculturalism,newspaper advertising has become a witness of the transformation of urban modernity,This paper records the historical process of Harbin’s development from a northern fishing village with self-sufficient natural economy as the main body to a modern city with high social division of labor.This paper selects the advertisements of Binjiang times and Dabei Xinbao from1921 to 1945 as the research objects,sorts out the changes in the contents and design forms of these two newspapers from the beginning of Harbin city to the formation of a more synchronous newspaper,and studies the development,operation,design and development of newspaper advertisements under the influence of multi culture The paper tries to grasp the modernity and aesthetic modernity of Harbin citizens
