Jiao Tai Yun is a monograph on the study of Chinese phonology by Henan scholars in the Ming Dynasty some 400 years ago.The author Lv Kun abolished the rule and aimed to help readers to pronounce and learn the phonology with the innovative fanqie,a traditional method of indicating the pronunciation of a Chinese character by using two other Chinese characters. He held that Heluo dialect was the Central Plains' Yayin at that time, and his book recorded the phonetic characteristics of the official dialect in Heluo region at that time. The study of Jiao Tai Yun can provide necessary literature reference for the diachronic evolution of mandarin pronunciation in the Central Plains, and can also provide detailed and accurate phonetic materials for the study of mandarin pronunciation in Ming Dynasty. This thesis analyzes the four aspects of the initials, vowels, tones of Jiao Tai Yun and Lv Kun's phonetic thoughts by using the methods of Fanqie system, induction, synchronic reference, historical comparison, internal analysis, and computational statistics.By comparing Jiao Tai Yun with related phonetic books and modern Henan dialect phonetic materials, this thesis interprets the phonetic features reflected in Jiao Tai Yun and Lv Kun's phonetic view in details,so as to comprehensively and accurately definethe phonological nature of Jiao Tai Yun.This thesis is divided into seven parts:The first chapter is the introduction, mainly introducing the purpose and significance of the study of Jiao Tai Yun,and commenting on the current academic research status of Jiao Tai Yun.The second chapter mainly introduces Lv Kun's life and pragmatism thoughts, and expounds his pragmatism thoughts and its impact on the compilation of Jiao Tai Yun.The third chapter is mainly about Lv Kun's phonetic thoughts, introducing the existing version and layout style of Jiao Tai Yun,and explains the relationship between Jiao Tai Yun and related phonetic books, especially Hongwu Zhengyun from the perspective of inheritance of phonetic books. This chapter analyzes and explains the phonetic thoughts contained in the preface and common examples of Jiao Tai Yun.The fourth chapter is about the initial consonant system of Jiao Tai Yun.It mainly introduces the initials of this book, comparing the similarities and differences between the initial consonant system of Jiao Tai Yun and other contemporaneous Mandarin rhyme systems. This chapter focuses on the analysis of voiced initials devoicing, the confluence of zhi and zhao, and the confluence of ying mu and yu mu in the initial consonant system of Jiao Tai Yun,and explains the pronunciation of ri mu,yu mu and yi mu,and the retention of wei mu in terms of specific rhyme. The fifth chapter mainly introduces the vowel system of Jiao Tai Yun.The fanqie reform of Jiao Tai Yun is very effective.Lv Kun carefully chooses the upper characters of the fanqie with the initial consonants, and the rhyme characters with the same vowel are often cut off with the same zero initials. The upper characters of fanqie in a rhyme group often form the group of "ru shang qu ping",with the same intermediate sounds and the same main vowels.Analyzing the fanqie system of Jiao Tai Yun,we can find the pronunciation of the other words hidden in the upper character of fanqie.Contacting the internal analysis method to explain the development and changes of the media of each rhyme, analyze the division and combination of the finals of Jiao Tai Yun in detail, and construct the phoneme system of the finals of Jiao Tai Yun.The focus is on the problems of the opening and closing of the second-class laryngo-dental medial and labial words in the final system of Jiao Tai Yun,as well as the phonetic phenomenon that the labial sounds of Youhouyun and Yumoyun are homophonic, and the pronunciation of Zhuangzumoyun is pronounced as song rhyme. The sixth chapter is the tone system of Jiao Tai Yun.This chapter mainly analyzes and discusses the voicing up and down, and the nature of the incoming voice in Jiao Tai Yun.The seventh chapter introduces the phonological nature of Jiao Tai Yun.This chapter mainly focuses on Comparing Jiao Tai Yun with "Zhongyuan Phonetic Rhyme","Hongwu Zhengyun","Book and Text Sound and Meaning Test Compilation","Qizi Jieyao","Wenyun Kaozhong","Ding Yun Tujing","Deng Yun Jing Yao".Compare and discuss the similarities, differences and proximity between Jiao Tai Yun and other Mandarin phonetic books. The phonology of Jiao Tai Yun is the closest to "Wenyun Kaozhong" and "Dengyun Jingyao",which is in line with Lv Kun's definition of Zhongyuan Yayin, and it also shows that the Jiao Tai Yun reflects the mandarin phonology of Zhongyuan in the middle and late Ming Dynasty.Through the analysis of Lv Kun's Zhongyuan Yayin concept and the similarities and differences between Jiao Tai Yun and other mandarin rhymes in the Ming Dynasty,it can be clarified that the Ming Dynasty Mandarin once existed in the form of mandarin with local accent. This can be confirmed by the fact that no official mandarin phonetic system recognized and clearly stated in the Ming Dynasty has yet been discovered. The eighth chapter is the conclusion of this paper, summarizes the main conclusions and innovations of this paper, and points out the insufficiency of this paper and the problems that need to be studied further.
