Research articles are an important medium for academic discourse communities to construct scientific knowledge, promote academic development and spread scientific culture, and the large number of high-frequency Phraseological sequences present in them is an important means to express academic propositions and convey information. In contrast to the fruitful research results in academic English, there is still much room for research in academic Chinese. In Chinese research articles, classical Chinese phraseological sequences are one of the important linguistic features, but they have not been studied in depth yet.Based on this, this paper adopts corpus phraseology theory and stylistic-register grammar theory, and applies a corpus comparison research method to investigate the co-selection characteristics, discourse functions and disciplinary differences of highfrequency phrase sequences in Chinese academic texts. This study focuses on classical Chinese phraseological sequences, which draws on the latest achievements of academic English research and reflects the characteristics of academic Chinese research, and has important theoretical significance and practical value.Corpus comparison and quantitative analysis are needed in order to explore the linguistic features of academic Chinese. In this study,we first constructed a self-constructed corpus of Chinese journal research articles(CCJRA)containing nearly 3 million words from 8 disciplines and compared it with the existing general modern Chinese corpus(also 3 million words);using research tools such as HanLP,BFSU PowerConc 1.0,PowerGREP,Python and the {ca} toolkit in R language,we used statistical analysis methods of difference test and correspondence analysis.Taking classical Chinese words as the research object,we analyzed their typical usage characteristics in academic contexts, discovered the classical Chinese phraseological sequences preferred by Chinese academic researchers, and explored the productive potential of classical Chinese words in academic language usage. The following four main questions are answered:(1)What are the core classical Chinese words in Chinese research articles?(2)What are the co-selection features of classical Chinese core words in academic Chinese contexts?(3)What are the functional representations of classical Chinese phraseological sequences?(4)What are the differences in the performance of classical Chinese phraseological sequences across different disciplines?Based on the above four questions, the main findings of this study are as follows:(1)We compared the corpus of journal research articles with the general corpus of modern Chinese, and extracted 12 words that are significantly used in academic Chinese through thematic analysis, such as”?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?”.(2)We systematically investigated the structural features of the 12 core literary words co-selection in research articles, and found a total of 93 phrase sequences with the 12 literary words as the core phraseological sequences. These sequences showed both contiguous and non-contiguous structures with different features. The phraseological sequences with their cores reflect the canonical nature of academic discourse, and are subject to rhythmic constraints within sentences, and have a discourse concordance effect at the cross-sentence level.(3)By referring to Halliday's(1985)meta-functional model and drawing on Hyland's(2008b)specific classification framework, this study identified 93 literary phraseological sequences that express discourse functions in academic journal articles.Among them,46 phrase sequences realized research-oriented functions, specifically involving four categories of propositional meaning:reporting, announcing research features, presenting research design and presentation process, and acting;another 46 phrase sequences realized research-oriented functions, specifically involving 11 categories of discourse meaning:giving examples, comparing, contrasting, focusing, presenting details,summarizing/generalizing,indicating within the text, quoting, marking information, marking logical relations, and discourse referents;in addition, another 46 phrase sequences have realized research-oriented functions, specifically involving. In addition, there are five phrase sequences that fulfill the participant-oriented function, which involve four interpersonal meanings:judging, marking importance, authorial self-reference,and reader intervention. The classic Chinese words present meanings and express functions in the form of phraseological sequences, which are also important carriers of meta-discourse and important means of identity construction for academic authors, essentially realizing the function of communicative distance by means of hyperspace;(4)In order to explore the cross-disciplinary variation in the performance of literary phrase sequences,it is necessary to analyze the retrieved data from the overall to the local multi-level.From the overall analysis of the data, the use of literary phrase sequences is correlated with disciplinary categories, specifically, two disciplines,HAC(computer)and SPH(history),tend to use classical Chinese phraseological sequences more;different disciplines have different preferences for classical Chinese phraseological sequence, but hard disciplines show more obvious interdisciplinary consistency than soft disciplines,i.e.,both tend to use There are differences in the preference for phraseological sequences among disciplines, but hard disciplines show more consistency than soft disciplines,i.e.,they all tend to use the type of "?,?,?" phraseological sequences. The most significant differences in usage preferences were found between the "hard"and "soft" disciplinary clusters;individual phrase sequences showed significant disciplinary tendencies. This study is innovative in terms of research themes, research methods and research findings,in academic Chinese, and will have certain implications for academic Chinese research, stylisticregister grammar, disciplinary field research and academic Chinese teaching.
