A Study On The Cultivation Of Contemporary University Students' Devotion To Family And Country

Devotion to home and country,whose formation is based upon people's understanding of their own relationship with home and country,is a positive attitude of people towards their country.It contains their recognition of the country,love for the nation and intention of patriotic action.As the spiritual support of Chinese nation's continuous development and tenacious progress for thousands of years,the devotion is also an indispensable source of psychological power to realize "Chinese dream",i.e.Chinese nation's great rejuvenation in the new era.The significance of its cultivation lies in the training of socialist builders and successors with patriotic spirit for the realization of "Chinese dream".It is a positive response to higher education's question of the era "what kind of students to cultivate,how to cultivate them and for whom to cultivate them".Devotion to home and country originated in the Western Zhou Dynasty,and gradually formed and developed in the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period.The recognition of the state and nation is the premise of its generation;the patriotic feelings are its core;and the intention of patriotic action is its concrete expression.The characteristics of this devotion are nature of sociality,motivation,inheritance and class.It can play an important role in strengthening the national identity,stimulating the internal power of patriotism,clarifying the values orientation and cultivating the patriotic will,etc.Devotion to home and country contains different emotional direction,values orientation and explicit characteristics in different historical periods.The historical turning point from standing up,becoming rich,to becoming strong,further extends the connotation of devotion to home and country in the new era.Contemporary university students have become one of the important groups to carry forward and practice the devotion to home and country,which has realized the unity of love for the country,for the party and for socialism in its emotional direction in the new era.In the values orientation,it is embodied in the establishment of the common ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Striving to realize the "Chinese dream" has become the action orientation of the devotion to home and country in the new era.The cultivation of contemporary university students' devotion to home and country needs diversified theoretical support.On the one hand,Marxism provides scientific theoretical guidance for its cultivation in university students.On the other hand,the youth education theory of the Communist Party of China provides it practical theological guidance.Meanwhile,the devotion to home and country is also the unique spiritual gene of Chinese nation.The cultivation process must inherit and carry forward its spiritual essence contained in excellent traditional Chinese culture.Furthermore,the essence of the devotion is an individual's positive attitude towards the nation with patriotism as its core,thus in the cultivation process we should learn from the relevant theories of psychology and pedagogy,and follow the law of attitudinal cultivation and emotional education.The establishment of the cultivation content of contemporary university students' devotion to home and country should be based on its connotation in the new era.Firstly,university students' sense of identity to the country and the nation should be cultivated through the identity education of national conditions,the education of the community consciousness of Chinese nation,and the education of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Secondly,university students' positive feelings towards the country and the nation should be cultivated through the education of national belonging,national pride,national esteem,national responsibility and national dedication.Thirdly,university students' intention of doing something for their country and their nation should be cultivated through the values education of national interests' supremacy,the education of ideals and beliefs of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the education of patriotic hard-working spirit.Nowadays the changes of international and internal environment in China have a significant impact on people's thoughts,psychology and behavior,which will bring severe challenges to the cultivation of contemporary university students' devotion to home and country.Western cultural colonialism has shaken the existing cultivation foundation;the spread of ultra-nationalism has hindered the realization of the cultivation goal;and realistic problems in society has weakened the cultivation influence.What's more,the development of information technology has also brought an impact on the traditional concept of cultivating the devotion,reducing the effectiveness of its cultivation.The current situation of contemporary university students' devotion to home and country is the objective basis for establishing cultivation strategies.The results of empirical study show that current university students' devotion to home and country is in a good level as a whole.The overall situation and outstanding problems focus on the following aspects: First,all these three levels taken together,patriotic feelings score the highest while patriotic action intentions score the lowest.The gap between these two levels reflects certain deficiencies in the practical education of current cultivation process.The results of multiple regression analysis show that the highest contribution rate to the development and promotion of the devotion is national identity,thus in the process of cultivation,we should focus on the basic work of strengthening national identity education.Second,university students have a low degree of identity in their recognition of national image and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics,a low sense of patriotic devotion,and an unclear ideal goal and values orientation,therefore their education of political theory needs to be strengthened.Third,student party members and student cadres have not yet played a leading role in the cultivation process.Fourth,the cultivation in key universities and private universities needs to be further deepened.In addition,the level of art and sports college students' devotion to home and country is relatively low,so the cultivation of this group should be reinforced.Meanwhile through interviews,it is found that there are still problems in the cultivation,such as lack of systematization,lack of clear cultivation objectives,lack of cultivation mechanism,lack of scientific cultivation methods,and lack of innovation in ideological and political theory education,etc.In the process of formulating the cultivation strategy of university students' devotion to home and country,we should first strengthen the top-level design,improve the systematicness,integrity and coordination of the cultivation by the establishment of a scientific and effective cultivation system.Starting with favorable family tradition and family education,we should give full play to the joint efforts of family education,university education and social education.Secondly,we should make good use of the major role of ideological and political theory teaching,and improve the pertinence and effectiveness of the cultivation by innovating the content and methods of in-class teaching,strengthening the construction of teachers' team and deepening the theoretical research of relevant courses.Thirdly,the cultivation of devotion to home and country,which is the spiritual gene of Chinese excellent traditional culture,must be based on the cultural carrier,thus it can be furnished through the cultural connotation of traditional festivals,the spiritual strength of excellent literary works and the vitality of campus culture.At the same time,patriotic education is the key link of the cultivation.We should create a positive emotional atmosphere for university students through model education,ritual education and situational experience education.Finally,the subjective consciousness of developing and practicing the devotion to home and country should be improved through life-like education,practice education and self-education.
