Research On The Influence Of Global Value Chain Network Embeddedness On Knowledge Power

Global Value Chain(GVC)network is a new cross organizational form.The fragmentation and non integration process of production provides opportunities for enterprises scattered in the value chain network to obtain external resources.However,how to reduce the dependence on the core enterprises in the GVC while obtaining external resources and improving their control over key resources named knowledge resources is crucial.Practice shows that the induced effect of GVC can be indifferent.Enterprises in different value chain links,regions and countries in the GVC network have great imbalance in obtaining global resources.This kind of imbalance needs to deeply analyze the mechanism behind the impact of GVC network embeddedness on enterprises.However,how does GVC network embeddedness affect the status of Chinese manufacturing enterprises from a micro perspective? What is the inherent mechanism of the influence of the embedding characteristics of GVC networks on the status of firms? What contextual factors are involved? Considering that behind the growth of macro data of China's international trade import and export volume,the micro subject of change is the enterprise which is the source of macro data of international trade import and export and the real participant in the GVC network framework,and considering that knowledge is the key strategic resource for the development of manufacturing enterprises and resources value,scarcity and non substitutability determine the control and influence to knowledge suppliers in the network,therefore,the concept of knowledge power is helpful to explore this economic phenomenon.This study attempts to use knowledge power to examine the internal logic of the impact of global value chain embedding on the status of enterprises from the micro level.Focusing on the relationship between the network embeddedness of GVC and knowledge power,and based on the research samples of Chinese manufacturing enterprises and the theoretical logic of "network-capacity-power",this paper combines the resource dependence theory,social network theory and dynamic capacity theory,sorts out and summarizes the relevant literature of network embeddedness,innovation ability,knowledge power and other theories,then discusses and explores the influence of GVC embeddedness on knowledge power of enterprises.In order to open the "black box" on the influence of GVC network embeddedness on knowledge power,the intermediary role of innovation ability in the relationship between GVC embeddedness and knowledge power are included in the mechanism.The results show that:(1)the two-dimension structural embeddedness and relational embeddedness in the network of global value chain have a significant effect on the knowledge power of enterprises,which validates the macro-measurement results,but compared with the effect of structural embeddedness,relational embeddedness plays a more important role in the promotion of knowledge power.(2)the innovation ability plays an intermediary role between the embedding of global value chain and knowledge power.The imbedding of global value chain of enterprises can promote the role of knowledge power through the inherent drive of innovation,which accords with the logic theory of "network-capacitypower”.(3)the moderating effect analysis shows that the mediating effect of innovation ability between the embeddedness of global value chain and the knowledge power of firms is negatively regulated by the knowledge distance among firms in value chain.With the increase of knowledge distance,the promotive effect of structural embeddedness and relational embeddedness on innovation ability decreases gradually.Innovations include the following three aspects:(1)to break through the existing researchwhich explain the impact of GVC through the macro and medium level GVC status indicators,this paper discusses the influence of the embedding of GVC on the position of enterprise GVC,that is,knowledge power,and constructs the relationship model among the structural embedding,relational embedding and knowledge power of enterprise in GVC and has carried on the empirical test.(2)it reveals the influence of GVC network embeddedness on knowledge power and its internal mechanism.This study examines the positive impact of the embedding of GVC network on the knowledge power of enterprises,reveals the mediating effect of innovation capability,and verifies the rationality of the inherent logic of network-capability-power.This paper interprets the dual characteristics of network embeddedness in the context of GVCs,and deepens and enriches the research on network embeddedness and network power.(3)the context variable of knowledge distance is introduced to test the moderating effect of knowledge distance on the relationship between structural embeddedness,relational embeddedness and innovation capability.Structural embeddedness and relational embeddedness in GVCs promote innovation capability,which are negatively regulated by knowledge distance between firms in the upper and lower reaches of the value chain.This paper has certain theoretical and guiding significance to the promotion of the value chain status of the manufacturing industry in the emerging economies and the choice of the path of innovation.
