Research On Cognitive Emergentism

Cognitive emergentism combines emergentism with the topic of cognitive science,which is an important theory to answer what kind of method and form to solve cognitive phenomenon.The relationship between cognitive and physical phenomena forms the core topic of contemporary cognitive science.Reductionism insists that cognitive phenomena can be reduced to physiological and physical laws to explain,aiming at establishing a unified scientific model.Cognitive emergentism holds that reductionism ignores the subjectivity of cognition,emphasizes the continuity between mind phenomena and physical phenomena,and pay attention to the external environment and its influence and role on cognition.Cognitive emergentism introduces emergentism to the study of cognition and mind,and integrates the research paradigm of cognitive science by establishing the interpretation mechanism of cognitive emergentism.The paper mainly focuses on the background,implication,characteristics,types of cognitive emergentism,the possibility of explanatory mechanism,and the problems and countermeasures of cognitive emergentism.First,the paper explores the ideological background and theoretical basis of cognitive emergentism from the perspectives of philosophy,biology and complex science.On this basis,the paper analyzes and summarizes the relationship between mechanism,vitalism,evolution,organism,system theory,complex science and emergentism,depicts the meaning,types and characteristics of the theory from the historical dimension.For this,the paper takes the principle of mind-matter continuity,the principle of the level and the principle of context-dependence as the working hypotheses of cognitive emergentis;it further analyzes symbolism,connectionism and dynamism of paradigm of disembodied cognitive science,and the paradigm of the second generation of embodied cognitive science;it takes the topics of the disembodied and embodied,the strong and weak emergence,and causality as the main topics of cognitive emergentism;and it compares and summarizes the two cognitive science paradigms from the perspective of emergentism.The important feature of cognitive emergentism is irreducibility.Irreducibility not only causes the downward causality of emergentism,but also implies that there are layers between mind phenomena and physical phenomena.To some extent,the explanation mechanism of cognitive emergentism is the explanation of the level relationship.At present,interpretation of cognition emergentism are mainly the explanations of non-reductionism,law and low-level,these explanations discuss the level relationship from different perspectives.The emergence of context is a new method of conditional interpretation,which provides an important proof for the introduction of contextualism into cognitive emergentism.Finally,cognitive science can't get around the attention to consciousness.Consciousness emergentism is another expression of mind-body problem in cognitive science.The academic world are different forms of cognitive emergentism of materialism,but these viewpoints cannot integrate the various schools of consciousness.To some certain,Bunger's consciousness emergentism defends cognitive emergentism of scientific research with systematic formalization,but formalization often lacks the expression of meaning.However,dialectical materialism,embodied cognitive science and contextualism complement and perfect consciousness emergentism in the aspects of consciousness property,embodied factors and formalization,and provide new ideas for cognitive science research.
