One of the problems facing many cities in China is the serious lack of urban history and culture.Most urban construction and renovation have lost their sense of history,and at the expense of cutting off the cultural foundation,urban historical legacy,cultural relics,valuable historical buildings,and traditional historical features have been constructively destroyed.In the process of modernization,Beijing and Xi’an also encountered problems of unfavorable protection.Beijing demolished the city wall and kept some hutongs and courtyards;Xi’an kept the city wall,but demolished historical blocks and residential buildings.There are "typical" and "differences" between the two cities,and a comparative study on the existence and lack of the two cities is carried out,hoping to give some warnings and inspirations to the world.The article focuses on the most representative international metropolis capital Beijing and the ancient capital Xi’an,the problems existing in the protection and transformation of traditional historical blocks in urban planning and design and construction,and the traditional hutongs in the old urban areas with historical features in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.,alleys,courtyards,architectural cultural heritage including the Ming city wall,combined with the serious damage in the process of urban construction and development,the author conducts an objective and scientific comparison and analysis,from which to find the truly highly civilized and highly civilized Chinese nation.It can represent the cultural self-confidence and persistence that a historical city should have.Through walking,reading,thinking and re-understanding of the two cities,this paper makes a multi-dimensional comparison of the status quo of the old cities in Beijing and Xi’an,and analyzes the status quo and the reasons behind the protection of the two cities.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the old city and the new city.The purpose is to explore the protection concepts and methods suitable for the two old cities of Beijing and Xi’an,and hope to provide some insights and thoughts for the protection and construction of cities across the country and the world.I hope people can have a certain reverence for human historical relics and cultural heritage.This paper proposes personal opinions and planning schemes on the protection,reconstruction and future urban development of the old city;answers the key questions of urban protection:thinking about why and how to protect;proposes the contradiction between protection and construction and the methods to solve the contradiction;explores urban protection The dual meaning of construction and construction;looking for the bearing and responsibility of "things" and "people" for future urban development;building the core value of oriental aesthetics;creating a field of urban spirit and urban imagery;stimulating people’s id to foresee the future of the city;Focusing on the protection,development and aesthetics of international metropolises,the current situation and future of the two cities are expounded,and the core ideas and academic viewpoints of the article are expressed.The significance of the article lies in how to respect history,respect the cultural texture of the city,and respect the value of architectural cultural heritage protection in the process of developing and constructing an international metropolis,and truly understand the necessity of sustainable development and protection of historical and cultural cities.Call on city builders and more people to give common evaluation and attention to the phenomenon that the rapid urbanization of Chinese cities has caused irreversible effects on the city due to the rupture of history and cultural context.
