As two important attribute factors of human beings,emotion and reason run through the whole process of human production and creation practice and aesthetic activities,and have an important impact on human creation production and practice.The relationship between emotion and reason is complex and has been developing.People’s cognition and understanding of the relationship between emotion and reason is gradually developed with the development of human social production and practice.The same is true in product design.Restricted by materials,technology and other conditions,as well as the comprehensive influence of social economy,science and technology,culture and art,the relationship between emotion and reason has different forms and connotation characteristics in different development stages of product design.In the product design in the handicraft period,under the influence of pertinence,experience and individuality,the relationship between emotion and reason presents a stable and balanced functional relationship and formal characteristics.Under the condition of large-scale mechanical production,during the industrialization period,social material and spiritual production showed a trend of polarization,and the relationship between emotion and reason in product design showed the formal characteristics of opposition,separation and imbalance.In the product design of this period,on the one hand,it pays too much attention to and emphasizes the design and production of integrity,standardization and pattern,and ignores the creation and shaping of the emotional factors such as cultural consciousness and artistic aesthetics in the design products;On the one hand,the artistic expression that overemphasizes and biases the external form and style characteristics of the design products,but lacks sufficient connotation and significance.After entering the 21st century,with the progress and development of social economy,science and technology,and the introduction and application of new technologies and new materials in the design field,compared with before,contemporary product design has undergone great changes in production mode,design concept,manufacturing materials,manufacturing technology and so on.In this changing situation,what are the different developments and changes in the form,function characteristics and connotation of the relationship between emotion and reason? At the same time,what impact and role will these developments and changes have on the development of creative practice and the reform of design concept in contemporary product design?This is a problem that can not be ignored for contemporary product design.What important influence and role will the development and change of the relationship between emotion and reason in contemporary product design have on the development and research of Chinese contemporary product design and its creative practice,as well as the progress and improvement of Chinese design theory research?These are worth pondering and discussing.This paper will take the historical literature and case analysis as the main research method,through the historical investigation of product design and the analysis of the relationship between emotion and reason in eastern and western philosophy,to study the expression form,function law,development and change of the relationship between emotion and reason in product design.While discussing the development trend of the integration of emotion and reason in contemporary product design in the 21 st century,this paper demonstrates the development trend of the mutual integration between traditional creation ideas and contemporary design ideas in Chinese contemporary product design under the development trend of the integration of emotion and reason.This paper will first analyze the relationship between emotion and reason,discuss and analyze the meaning and development of emotion and reason,the research contents,characteristics and differences between the East and the west,and then discuss the relationship between emotion and reason in art and design activities.Secondly,through the historical investigation of the relationship between emotion and reason in product design,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the relationship between emotion and reason in the development process of product design,especially the discussion of the relationship fact of disconnection between emotion and reason in product design in the 20 th century,so as to explore the development trend of the integration of emotion and reason in contemporary product design in the 21 st century.It also discusses the connotation significance,form characteristics and function essence of the two trends of "to reason" and "better than emotion" in the integration trend of emotion and reason in contemporary product design in the 21 st century.Thirdly,by combing the connotation,essence and formal characteristics of the relationship between emotion and reason in Chinese traditional creation thought,and comparing the relationship between emotion and reason in Chinese traditional creation thought and contemporary design idea,this paper discusses and discusses the introduction and application of Chinese traditional design creation thought,and its influence and function on the practice and theoretical research of Chinese contemporary product design,and the development trend of the integration of emotion and reason between tradition and contemporaryity.Finally,the conclusion of this paper is drawn.Compared with the disconnection of the relationship between emotion and reason in the traditional product design in the 20 th century,the contemporary product design in the 21 st century presents the development trend of the integration of emotion and reason due to the wide application of new technology and new materials.For Chinese contemporary product design,this "integration" trend is not only the rational integration of science and technology and emotional aesthetics,but also the rational integration realized by the principles of correctness,unity and harmony under the contradiction,conflict and collision between Western foreign cultural ideas and local cultural ideas.At the same time,the Chinese traditional creation thought is introduced into the research on the comparative integration of eastern and Western design cultural thoughts in Chinese contemporary product design,so as to help the development and improvement of Chinese design discipline in theoretical research and system construction.This is also the innovation of the paper..
