| Ta Kung Pao is the only newspaper which survives more than a hundred years in Chinese Newspaper History,as well as the global Chinese Newspaper History.It experienced hundred years of changes and witnessed the disasters and struggles that Chinese people went through.After several changes of its owner,the Ta Kung Pao stays in front of the period.It gives out information,leads public opinion,comments current affairs and people.It covers not only the political,cultural and economics topics of China but also the spread of the modern sports,and in the end the process of Chinese modernization.By adopting the methods of literature consultation,historical analysis,and content analysis,this dissertation chooses the sports news during 1902-1949 to systematically review the historical process of sports news.The dissertation divides the 48 years into four stages: the starting period(1902-1911),the transition period(1912-1925),the flourishing period(1926-1937)and the changing period(1938-1949).The author chooses four indexes to look into the four stages: social circumstances,the environment of public opinion,the spread of sports news and the content of sports communication.In the starting period,Ta Kung Pao openly criticized the social problems.The social circumstance faced a string of crises,whilst the new policies and revolutions were on their way.Newspapers struggled for the freedom to talk freely.The Sports News aimed to propagandize the martial spirit and to enrich the species of sports,and the contents focused on the military training and gymnastics,as well as the enlightenment of the general public.The transition period faced a dilemmatic situation.The social circumstance was under a political reform.The media began to advocate democracy and sports as a way to save the country.The Sports News turned to the recover of sports sovereignty,and the contents focused on the propaganda of martial arts,the sports meeting,and female sports items.The flourishing period witnessed the rebirth of this newspaper.The controversies between China and Japan arose,whilst the internal political environment turned to be stable,and the economics grew to some extent.Media of the Kuomintang,of the Communist Party as well as of the private owners coexisted.The Sports of New Democracy arose quickly,and the regulations of sports tended to maturity.Most of the contents focused on the regular sport’s campaign,while the large-scale sport’s campaign attracted the most attention.In the changing period,the Ta Kung Pao faced a difficult situation but overcome it in the end.The society turned to a full resistance against the Japanese aggressor,while the internal war burst out.The media turned to focus on the propaganda against Japanese attacker and were under KMT’s control.The Sports News of districts under KMT’s control were under a great shadow,while those of districts under communist party proliferated.The sports news of areas under Japanese governance were mostly enslaved.The contents of Ta Kung Pao focused on Glider and national integrity.This study chooses Ta Kung Pao’s reports on the global sports meeting,far eastern sports meeting,national sports meeting as well as Northern China sports meeting to do case studies.Based on a full analysis of indexes such as the communication subject,communication contents,communication forms and communication discourses,the research further concludes the epochal characteristics of Ta Kung Pao’s report on large-scale Sports Campaign.Based on a historical analysis of the communication of Ta Kung Pao’s sports news,we can conclude that the communication subject tends to be more professional,the content more diversified.The communication forms varied and the discourses are of epochal characteristics.A deeper understanding of Ta Kung Pao’s sports news discloses that enlightenment is always its reasonable appeal,and patriotism is always its core tenet. |
