A Study On Buddhist Thought Of Ming Deng Guang

Master Ming Deng Guang(1923-?1954)who integrated Vietnamese traditional culture and Buddhist culture,has established his fame as a well-known exponent of Vietnamese Buddhists in the process of Dharma promulgation in the 1940’ s by founding a new Buddhist sect called Vietnamese Bhikkhu Buddhist,which imbibed the essence both of Theravada Buddhism and Northern Buddhism for the purpose of inheriting saddharma from Gautama Buddha.The doctrine of Bhikkhu Buddhism preached by Master Minh Dang Quang in his masterpiece"Zhen Li"(真理)focused on practical application with a profound philosophic flavor to meet the demands of both Buddhist monks and the Vietnamese apprentices.Thus,it is of great religious significance and cultural value to catch the very abstruse philosophy of "Zhen Li" through the thorough study of Master Minh Dang Quang’s idea,which greatly enriched the theoretical connotations of Bhikkhu Buddhist in the history of Vietnamese Buddhism.My paper conducted an all-round and in-depth research on Master Ming Deng Guang’s Buddhism thoughts by systematically combing his theory based primarily on the text of "Zhen Li" combining with relevant literature information.After a brief introduction of his life,establishment of Buddhist sect,purpose of preachment and Buddhist writings,my paper explained the original way of "Renunciation and Liberation" from the persperctive of Buddha,Saddharma and Sangha,as well as the way of "achieving Buddhahood through enlightenment" by Mahayana Buddhism from the persperctive of ontology,prajnā and theory of liberation.Then my paper went on to elaborate the Perfect Middle Way of Bhikkhu from the angle of integration,reconciliation and practicalness through combinition of original Theravada and Mahay ana tenet.As the first theoretical attempt in a new line of reasoning,my paper arrived at a conclusion that the main characteristic of Master Ming Deng Guang’s thoughts was established in the light of integration-highly systematic and with a strong tendency of theorization as his Bhikkhu way was inpired by the the subtle blend of original Theravada and Mahayana teaching,thus embodied the integrated approach to practice and theory,inner nature and form as well as principle and phenomena.The Budhism theory developed by Master Ming Deng Guang has a profound impact on Vietnamese society at that time and later theory and practice of Bhikkhu way of Vietnamese Buddhism.
