Proverbs are the essence of human language system,the carrier of national language and culture and the crystallization of people’s wisdom.Language users use the most familiar physical experiences to reflect they had seen and heard and feel every day,resulting in a large number of proverbs of “body as object”;With the continuous improvement of language ability and cognitive level,language users gradually project the external world back to themselves,and the proverb“metaphorical” came into being.A comparative study of the proverbs of “body and object metaphor” in Chinese and English is not only an in-depth study of their language structure,but also an in-depth discussion of their national culture.Following the basic principle of “description before comparison”,this thesis constructs a corpus of Chinese and English “body-terms or outside object metaphor”Proverbs on the basis of classical dictionaries,makes a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the corpus with the help of relevant theories and tools of statistics,and makes an in-depth comparative analysis of Chinese and English “body-object metaphor” Proverbs from three aspects of typology,cognitive linguistics and cultural linguistics.This thesis concludes the differences and similarities between Chinese and English proverbs of “body and object metaphor”.The foregoing is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.It mainly introduces the research object,background,current situation and significance of this thesis,and defines the premise of this thesis.This thesis summarizes,combs and introduces the theoretical basis and research methods involved in this thesis,summarizes and describes the main research content and logical framework of this thesis in the way of picture and text,and then points out the corpus source of this thesis.Chapter two is the description and analysis of corpus.According to the previous studies,the concept and connotation of Chinese and English proverbs is defined in this thesis.Based on the semantic theory of “metaphor body” and “object field”,this thesis divides the semantic theory of “metaphor body” into two categories,and then classifies it into “object field” and “object field” according to the semantic theory of“metaphor body”.Based on statistical theory and methods,from two dimensions of quantitative and qualitative description and classification of the semantic field,this thesis research foundation.The third chapter analyzes and compares the Chinese and English proverbs of“body and object metaphor” from the perspective of typology.Starting from the characteristics of Chinese and English “body-object metaphor” Proverbs in rhythm,grammatical structure,vocabulary selection and discourse,this thesis analyzes their differences and similarities in these four aspects.Chapter four analyzes the similarities and differences between Chinese and English proverbs in semantic transfer from the perspective of cognitive linguistics.According to the semantic field divided above,from the subfields of “head and neck”“trunk” “viscera” and “living” and “inanimate” under the “human” field,combined with the different categories involved in the corpus,and based on Mccaff’s conceptual metaphor theory,this thesis makes a comparative analysis of Chinese and English“body object metaphor” Proverbs,and analyzes their similarities and differences in semantic transfer.The fifth chapter compares the similarities and differences between Chinese and English proverbs of “body and object metaphor” in the cultural dimension from the perspective of cultural linguistics.Macroscopically grasp that proverb,as an important carrier of language and culture,contain many differences in different folk cultures,ethics and ways of thinking of language users.Due to the commonness of physical characteristics and objective environment,they also have a lot of similarities.From the perspective of cultural linguistics,it clearly shows that the differences between the two languages.Finally,the last chapter briefly summarizes the reasons for the similarities and differences between Chinese and English proverbs.
