Through the childhood, one develops from a natural person to a social person. The socialization of gender is also an important part of the socialization of children, and the concept of gender has a great impact on children and their adult lives. The formation of children’s gender concept is constrained by many factors such as family, school education and media environment, and children’s literature also participates in the construction of children’s gender consciousness in an aesthetic way.Throughout the development of modern children’s literature in China, the creation of children’s fictions has made great progress since the new periord, and its influence has been expanding day by day,and its role in shaping the gender consciousness of child readers is also the most significant. Therefore, paying attention to the gender representation of children’s fictions since the new periord, outlining their appearance, and discovering their problems will help broaden the space for gender writing in children’s literature in the future. The main body of the thesis is unfolded from four aspects.Chapter 1 examines the gender connotations of the body in the works in terms of gender gaze, children’s physical development and the emergence of sexual consciousness, illness, trauma, and death. The ubiquity of the body schema of "force" and "beauty" places girls in the position of the object of the gaze, while the transcendence of the gaze points to the consciousness of gender conept in the creation. The writing of adolescent children’s physical development and sexual consciousness has focused on girls in the works of female writers, and boys’ physical experiences are less present and more obscure, and they are still relegated to the "heart" pole of the mind-body duality, and writers are more concerned with their spiritual growth.Writers have made valuable explorations in writing about children’s sexual trauma, but girls suffer more from diseases and trauma, which shows the stereotypes of weakening and sensualizing girls. When children’s lives and deaths are linked, from a gender perspective, there is a binary opposition between strength and weakness, activeness and passiveness, sublime and triviality.Chapter 2 explores the gender representation of space in works from three aspects: physical space, relational space and psychological space. There are obvious gender divisions in physical space: girls and adult women are more confined to the residence, and "birdcages" and "shop windows" are typical spatial images;Boys expand more outward and grow "on the road".In terms of relationship space, through the perspective of intergenerational spaces such as "corners","shells","rooms","drawers" and "outside the family" and peer spaces such as "secret spaces" and "mirror spaces",it is found that girls’ relationship orientation is emphasized, and boys’ emotions and feelings are repressed. In terms of psychological space, boys and girls have the opposing pattern of "wildness, loftiness and ethereal " and "warmth, beauty and imprisonment".Chapter 3 analyzes the gender discourse of the works at both the macro and micro levels.Statistics using the National Outstanding Children’s Literature Award as an example show an imbalance in the sex ratio of boys and girls in the works; The naming of children’s protagonists suggests the writers’ different positioning and expectations for children of different genders; The topics associated with the child protagonists also vary according to gender, with boys more directly involved in social life, and girls more concerned with solving their own emotional problems in family and school life. This part analyzes the switching and the length of the turns of speech, and the choice of syntax in the dialogue between the protagonists of a girl and a boy in typical works, and finds the power relationship basis of the "brother-sister" relationship model that is prevalent in children’s fictions. From the point of view of intertextuality, the number of pretexts that appear around boys and girls differ, the categories and the way in which they are cited are different, which shows the different perceptions of the sexes. The re-emergence of the "male salvation/male enlightenment" and "female jealousy" conceptual patterns shows that the stereotypes of gender relations and women’s relations in traditional gender concepts need to be further broken.Chapter 4 further explores multidimensional gender writing beyond the binary gender framework.Through the writing of children’s cross-dressing and the transgression of gender temperament,it is found that although children’s fictions have obvious gender temperament differences since the new periord, the possibility of breaking opposition, respecting differences, and moving towards diversity already exists. The attention and exploration of same-sex relationships shows the writers’ cautious attitude and responsibility for the personal care and creation of alternative children. The thesis no longer sticks to a single-sex position and focuses on certain writers, starting from the issues related to the gender construction of children, comprehensively combing through the creative gains and losses in the past forty years, and discovering the possible progress direction and space of gender writing in children’s fictions. At the same time,it introduces the perspectives and research methods of psychology, sociology, gender geography and linguistics, broadening the theoretical view of children’s literature research.
