| The term "Guang Shou Paper " does not actually exist in ancient times.It is in fact a generalised term given by Mr.Wu Hufan for mainstream calligraphy and painting paper before the Ming Dynasty.Thus,the introduction of " Guang Shou Xuan Zhi " is of great significance to the study of the appreciation and preservation of traditional calligraphy and painting."Lectures on Chinese Painting" believes that Chinese painting in fact comprises of multiple knowleges,of which should be composed of five topics: "traditional theory","calligraphy and painting materials","modeling techniques","display exhibition" and "appreciation & collection".Therefore,in the study of the appreciation,protection and restoration of traditional calligraphy and painting,it is necessary to talk about calligraphy and painting materials.Mr.Chen Yinke said: "Since the Zhao and Song Dynasties,the culture of the Chinese nation has evolved over thousands of years." Mr.Wang Juhua,a research expert on papermaking,believes that "papermaking is one of the important material conditions for forging the culture of the Song Dynasty." Mr.Yang Renkai further emphasizes the notion of the importance of paper to the Song people in one sentence: "It takes considerable effort and honing to make the surface of the paper smooth."It is generally believed that cultural relics have three aspects of value: historical,art and technological.In order to adapt to the creation and preservation of calligraphy and painting,the "Guang Shou Paper" of the Northern and Southern Song Dynasties contains rich traditional craftsmanship(technological)value from the selection of materials to the processing methods.Along With calligraphy and painting creation as well as the collection of these works,it is inevitable that there will be rich historical and artistic values.Therefore,this paper will focus on the "Northern and Southern Song Dynasty calligraphy and painting "Guang Shou Paper " and its Artistic Expression” through a combination of theory and practice research,exploration of the materials and craftsmanship,paper properties and brush and ink,as well as appreciation and collection of the artworks.This paper aims to mutually prove both the actual practice with historical documents along with the in-depth research methods of "theory","materials" and "modeling".In addition,the whole process of research ideas of "art experience","collection information" and "preservation technology" is also discussed.A more comprehensive discussion of the "Guang Shou Paper" of calligraphy and painting in the Song Dynasty is also presented.Firstly,from the historical background of the Song Dynasty,to discuss its value and humanistic appreciation;next,,is to explore its paper properties from the perspective of materials and craftsmanship,;Finally,from the perspective of protection and restoration,and to discuss its usage taboos;In terms of paper shape,decoration style,calligraphy brush and ink,etc.,the representative Southern Song Dynasty "White Lotus Society Painting" is used as a case to discuss its artistic expression from the perspective of tasting,protection and restoration.The study of "Guang Shou paper" in the context of Chinese art appreciation will enable us to have a brand new perspective in the appreciation of calligraphy and painting materials.The author hopes that through this foundational research,of "Guang Shou paper",new doors can be opened and and hopefully this can encourage more discussion on the intrinsic relationship between painting calligraphy materials with actual practice. |
