Common prosperity is an essential tenet of socialism,a cornerstone of Chinese modernization, and a shared aspiration of our nation.Presently,China is actively advancing the agenda of common prosperity while simultaneously witnessing rapid growth in the digital economy.Digital economy has emerged as one of the pivotal engines propelling China’s economic growth. In terms of time, the phased promotion of common prosperity in China aligns with the comprehensive development of the digital economy. From a goal-oriented perspective, achieving common prosperity entails addressing the challenges of widespread growth and development imbalances. The digital economy not only fuels economic growth but also furnishes a sharing mechanism for achieving balanced development.Consequently, the temporal consistency and goal alignment between promoting common prosperity and fostering the digital economy are evident.Within this context,it is imperative to analyze both the digital economy and common prosperity within a unified framework. We will comprehensively assess how the digital economy affects China’s common prosperity, delve into pathways for attaining this shared objective, and offer support to China in its pursuit of common prosperity goals. This article delves into the impact of the digital economy on achieving common prosperity in our country. The primary contents encompass.First, leveraging Marxist theory of income distribution and the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics,a foundational theoretical framework is established to analyze the impact of digital economy on common prosperity in China, and in-depth analysis was conducted on the impact of the digital economy on common prosperity in China through co-creation,coshared,co-benefit,and regulatory mechanisms, while exploring the transmission path of the digital economy on China’s common prosperity.Second, beginning with the factors influencing common prosperity in China, this study delves into the practical foundations of how the digital economy promotes common prosperity and examines the real-world challenges that hinder its achievement.Third,a comprehensive evaluation index system for the levels of digital economy development and common prosperity is constructed and measured. The results are then analyzed and evaluated based on temporal evolution trends and spatial distribution characteristics.Fourth, the fixed effects and threshold regression models have been applied for evaluating the effect of the digital economy on common prosperity in China.Fifth, the mediating and moderating effect models are developed to empirically analyze the mechanism and transmission path through which the digital economy impacts common prosperity in China. The threshold regression model is employed to further identify the mediating and moderating variables in this process. Finally, based on the theoretical investigation and practical test results, the research findings are put forward and feasible countermeasures alongside suggestions are given. The principal conclusions of this study are multifaceted.Firstly, throughout the research period, remarkable strides have been observed in the advancement of the digital economy and the enhancement of common prosperity throughout diverse provinces and regions of China. The digital economy’s development level follows a descending distribution pattern from the East to the Central, and from the Northeast to the West.Notably, the growth rates in the Western and Central regions surpass the national average, suggesting a notable "catching up" effect.Similarly, the level of common prosperity exhibits a decreasing distribution trend from the East to the Northeast, and from the Central to the West.Remarkably, only the Central region displays a growth rate higher than the national average, emphasizing its pivotal role in advancing common prosperity.Furthermore, the calculation results of the Gini coefficient underscore that regional disparities serve as the primary catalyst for spatial differences in China’s common prosperity.Secondly, the overall prosperity and shared affluence both exhibit a fluctuating upward trend, yet the growth rate of overall prosperity surpasses that of shared affluence.Furthermore, the level of overall prosperity in a region or province as a whole does not necessarily align with the advancement of shared affluence.Thirdly, the digital economy has made a noteworthy positive impact on both overall prosperity and shared affluence.Comparatively, its influence on overall prosperity appears more pronounced.Different dimensions of the digital economy exhibit varied impacts on common prosperity, with infrastructure and industrialization playing significant roles.Meanwhile, the digital development environment and data valuation show less significant effects.Regional disparities are evident in the correlation between the digital economy and common prosperity. While the digital economy notably boosts common prosperity levels in the eastern, central, and western regions, its effect on the northeastern region is comparatively limited.Furthermore, the digital economy’s impact on common prosperity follows an "accelerate then converge" trend, suggesting ongoing acceleration in its role.Fourthly,The digital economy is an important path to promote common prosperity by promoting regional integration, promoting rural digitalization, and improving the level of equalization of basic public services.Threshold regression results demonstrate that regional integration, rural digitization, and the equalization of basic public services all exhibit an "accelerating" effect.Fifthly,in the context of the digital economy promoting common prosperity in China, government intervention exerts a positive regulatory effect, whereas the digital divide has a negative impact.Among them, the utilization gap and capacity gap emerging as the most pronounced negative factors.Notably, government intervention aids in mitigating the adverse effects of the digital divide on common prosperity, with the weakening effect increasing in line with the level of government intervention. However, excessive government intervention may constrain the positive role of the digital economy in promoting common prosperity. In summary,it is imperative to maintain the level of government intervention within a reasonable range. This article conducts in-depth research on the theme by integrating theoretical analysis with empirical research methods, offering valuable insights for advancing the realization of China’s common prosperity goal in the era where the digital economy serves as the primary engine.
