The techniques of Digital Terrain Model,3D Visualization and Digital Terrain Analysis are hot research topics in fields of Geographic Information System, Digital Photogrammetry and Virtual Reality. These techniques have appeared for a long time. And with the development of computer techniques,These techniques become more and more practical and have a wide application prospect. The terrain model contains mass data, it is a great challenge for current computer hardware to progress these data and show the terrain on display real-timely,dynamically and interactively. At present, we must commence on the terrain model simplification to get an ideal result.Based on the current research results of Terrain Visualization and real-time rendering Technology, the main contents of 3D terrain Visualization,such as Digital Terrain Model, 3D Realistic terrain,Simplification and multi-resolution expression of Terrain Model, are researched.The main contents are as follows:(1) The simplification and multi-resolution representation of Regular Square Grid Terrain Model is realized;(2) The methods of generating TIN are studied;(3) Based on OpenGL graphic library and its work principle, the basic process of generating 3D realistic terrain surface is researched;(4) Studied the basic contents of Digital Terrain Analysis based on Regular Square Grid Model.The contents of research in this paper are not thorough and comprehensive,many other contents are needed to be researched. With the constant progress of relative techniques, methods of obtaining DEM data,Visualization and Digital Terrain Analysis must be get continuous development.
