Terrain visualization has become increasingly in recent years because it has wideapplication backgrounds. Terrain Visualization is a subject about the display,simplification, simulation of Digital Terrain Mode or Digital Height Field. It is part ofcomputer graphics.In GIS, Terrain Visualization help to understand the interrelation of spatial dataand the result of analysis. Terrain visualization is important content of GIS, and is themajor technology to establish the Digital Earth.In this paper, the fundamental theory and methods of terrain modeling, includeregular square grid and triangulated irregular netWork, is studied. Then, terrainsimplification and multiresolution model is discussed, and comprehensivelysummarize the previous work. The key point is the simplification of regular squaregrid to triangulated irregular network. Based on the analysis of OpenGL, study on theterrain visualization. And basic terrain analysis is solved.
