The implementation of " Ordinary high school mathematics curriculum standards (Experimental) " calls for more new and higher professional quality mathematics teachers in primary and secondary schools and normal college students of mathematics. The normal college students'professional quality of mathematics is a not only a teacher education frequently researched issue, but also a serious challenge faced by normal college student mathematics education.Currently,due to the fact that the normal college students'professional quality of mathematics needs to be improved urgently. Against the background of free education for normal students in normal universities affiliated to Ministry of Education in China, and the new round of mathematics curriculum reform, the formation and development of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics has become significant for the mathematics teacher education and cultivation of professional mathematics teachers. The key issue discussed in this thesis is: to clarify what constitutes the tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics;to investigate and analyze the status quo of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics; to reveal the regular pattern of formation and development of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics; to explore an effective way for improve the tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics.Based on the professional quality of mathematics teachers related literature and theory at home and abroad, the present study designs a questionnaire on the of the tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics, which mainly consists of mathematical knowledge, mathematical competency, mathematical affective and source of professional quality of mathematics. Adopting such research methods as literature study, investigating, comparison and so on, this study discusses the status quo, formation and development of the tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics.Ideological framework constructed, interview outline listed and questionnaire designed on the basis of related literature and theory study, the author conducts interviews with mathematics education experts, middle school mathematics teachers and mathematics tuition-free normal college students. Using the stratified random sampling method,660 students, who entered six normal universities affiliated to Ministry of Education in China respectively in 2007,2008 and 2009, are selected to do the questionnaire, and the data collected are analyzed with the statistic analysis software SPSS17.0.The research results show that:(1) the mathematics affective quality of mathematics tuition-free normal college students is higher, while the quality of mathematical ability is lower; (2) the mathematics professional quality shows difference in different genders, grades and schools; (3) the mathematics professional quality and mathematical knowledge are in direct proportion, so are mathematical ability and mathematical affective; (4) mathematical knowledge, mathematical ability and mathematical affective have different impact on the formation and development of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics.The originality of this paper lies in following four aspects:(1) it designs a questionnaire which are composed of mathematical knowledge, mathematical ability and mathematical affective; (2) clarified what constitutes the tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics and the relationship among its composition elements; (3) knew the status quo, formation and development of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics; (4) some enlightenment on the formation and development of tuition-free normal college students'professional quality of mathematics are summarized and some suggestions are put forward.
