Studies On Science And Technology Tradition Of Europe

In the whole science and technology civilization, generally we think that science and technology comes from ancient Egypt and Babylon's ancient production. And then,science and technology civilization of Egypt and two river areas has been inheritted and developed by European. During ancient Greece and ancient Rome, european science and technology developed windingly. Because Greece is good at rational thinking, ancient abstract natural philosophy has been emerged with the tide of the times. Henceforth, Rome had replaced Greece becoming a big empire of three continents across Europe,Asia and Africa. However, Rome didn't develop the natural philosophy of ancient Greece, they fell short of contribution to the natural philosophy .However, Romance values a practical technique development. So there are two science technology traditions of Europe: One is the natural philosophy tradition that takes Greece as a representative, the other one is the practical technique tradition of Rome. These two greatest traditions take Mediterranean as centre, mainly distributing the southern region of Europe. By contrast, we have a little knowledge of northern Europe's development. This text argues that the middle and northen people in Europe who developing of material culture in the northern region have been carrying on. In the later development, the civilization factor of Rome and Greece integrated into it. Completely neglecting this history influence is not agree with fact, and is more disadvantageous to examines science and techninology tradition of Europe comprehensively. In fact, after Middle Ages, modern science is the dual result from continuous developing of northen region in Europe and its aborbing the culture of Roma and Greece .This text introduced the natural philosophy tradition of Greek first, discussing Greece philosophy of natural science part. We take philosophers, such as Taylors and Pythagoras etc. as a representation of examinating thing's origin problem.We introduced Aristotelian deducing methodology tradition and Greece scholar's attitude of contempting craftsman technique. Furthermore, I introduced Rome tradition of practical technology, such as Romance agriculture, handicraft industry and building industries all obtaining important progress and development. The science tradition of Rome falling short of creation is a kind of collections and sorting of Greece natural philosophy. Third, I introduced northen European tradition taking Germans as a representatiion. Mainly on the basis of material culture, I elaborated that Germany continuously technique of manufacturing craft has been carrying on. During the Great Migration of Fifth Centry A.D., they brought some fresh factors into the development of Europe. This tradition provided prior condition for the technical slow progress of Middle Ages. Then european crusaders of easten conquest discovered classic culture of Greece again. It makes this technique craft tradition and science tradition combine together and makes modern science develop in a right way, profoundly influencing modern science and technical development afterwards.
