Since the concept was put forward,Digital Earth has been intrigued in home and abroad. As a component of Digital Earth,Digital City is an absolutely necessary part. The construction of Digital City not only is the digitalization of city map and the surveying and mapping and computerization of large-scale map,but also has its own technology system. The research and the discussion of its related technology is necessary. This paper is firstly to study and analyze the status quo and development of digital city in home and abroad, and pointer that 3D Digital City is the direction of construction of future Digital City. Then the basic principle of city modeling has been introduced, and due to some existing problems, the method of mixed modeling technology is given. Based on the 3D display principle and some key technology of 3D scene using 3D graphic language-OpenGL,the 3D terrain and objects on the earth's surface visualization is studied. A method on establishing the complex objects by the modeling tool-3DMAX is proposed and implemented. The way and implementation of object selecting in real time in 3D scene is studied in this paper. In order to manage mass data efficiently in the processing of city modeling, the paper has studied the storage and management in database of texture data. At last, based on all above,a digital campus subsystem is developed in VC++6.0 & OpenGL. which has the function of data input,3D modeling, model import, model visualization,3D editing, attribute querying, scene roaming and so on.For purpose of providing some reference experience for the study of Digital City, the digital campus subsystem is developed oriented fact requirements. The great foundation on further related study and widely application is founded.
