Based on data of daily maximum temperature, minimum temperature, maximum relative humidity, minimum relative humidity and averaged wind speed in 90 observatories in Shandong province from 1971 to 2000, the characteristics of comfort index and its related air temperature, humidity and wind speed are studied. Distribution and prediction method of comfort index in Shandong province are investigated. Comfort indices best for tour to areas in Shandong are estimated and the climatic trend of comfort indices in areas of Shandong are discussed.Representing cities of and calculating nethod for comfort index are selected for inland and maritime areas. Air temperature, humidity and wind speed are the main factors influencing the comfort index. The climatic characters of meteorological factors closely related with the comfort index are studied. It is found that the distributions of these factors are different. There are seasonal changes and special variations in air temperature. Minimum temperature appears in winter and temperature in winter and autumn are degressive from south to north of the province. Maximum temperature appears _n summer and temperature in summer and spring are higher in hinterland than in maritime areas. Maximum and minimum temperature tends to increase rom the late in 1980' s. It is found that the relative humidity is h:gher in hinterland than in maritime areas. Relative moist air is in the southeast of the province. The stage with highest relative humidity occurs in July or August and the stage with lowest value occurs in April, toy or winter. The seasonal maximum wind speed usually occurs in spring inland and occurs in winter in maritime areas. The annual average wind speed tends to decrease year by year in the past 30 yearsThe distribution of comfort index is studied over Shandong. There are apparent spacial and seasonal differences. The special difference in winter is less than during other seasons. Large amplitude of special difference appears in summer. There are more comfortable days in marine areas of Shandong peninsula. There are more days with higher air temperature in the middle and western part cf Shandong and there are more days with lower temperature in the north and northeastern part of maritime areas. There are more comport nights in the summer times. During summer, there are more comfortable days in regions of Mountain Tai, the east of Shandong peninsula and the south littoral areas. Then the body comfort indices for tour n different part of Shandong were evaluated. Areas best for tour were recDmmended: during Spring time, the middle and western part of Shandong are est recommended and maritime areas eastern part of Shandong peninsula and southeastern part of Shandongare recommended next. During summer, Mountain Tai, eastern of Shandong peninsula and maritime of southeastern area of Shandong are best for vacation. Weihai, Qingdao and Shidao are best city for tourist. Autumn is the golden season for tour in all Shandong Province.Variance of body comfort in the past 30 years was analyzed by means of REOF in Shandong province. It is found that the averaged comfort degree in spring, summer, autumn and winter could be divided into 2, 4, 3, 2, 3 subdivisions respectively. The trend of body comfort in every area is consistent generally, but their extents are different. In the past 30 years the body comfort in shandong province is becoming warm. Number of uncomfortable days with cold decreased and number of uncomfortable days with .hot increased. This trend is extremely obvious in the late 1990s.In the last part of this paper, factors influencing the index of comfort were analyzed. It was found that air temperature plays very important role in body comfort and humidity and wind speed act distinctly in different area during seasons.
