The central visual system in reptiles consists of the thalamofugal pathway, the tectofugalpathway and the accessory optic system, which are thought to be homologous to the birds' centralvisual system. The anterior dorsal ventricular ridge (ADVR) plays an important role in thetectofugal pathway of reptiles. Two works has been done in this thesis: â‘ studied the divisions of the anterior dorsalventricular ridge by anatomical and histological methods. This investigation indicates that there isa shallow channel on the surface of ADVR. Using this channel as a sign and according to thedifferent colorations, densities and morphologies of the labeling cells, we can divide ADVR intothree areas. Those mean the rostrolateral area of ADVR (rla), the caudolateral area of ADVR (cla)and the medial area of ADVR (ma). The coloration of those three areas has a descending from therostrolateral area of ADVR (rla) to the caudolateral area of ADVR (cla), and to the medial area ofADVR (ma). There are more cells in the rla and cla, and the size of those cells is bigger than thosein the ma. In addition, there are cell clusters in the rla and the cla, but fewer in the ma. The cells inthe ma are smaller than those in the rla and the cla. Beside this, it is hard to be stained, so its coloris shallow. â‘¡Take photos of the transverse sections from Golgi-Cox, then reconstructed them bythe software Photoshop 7.0. This work shows: â‘ The shades of cell clusters of each area of theanterior dorsal ventricular ridge are different. There are agglomerate and bead cell clusters in therostrolateral area of ADVR (rla), which are made up of pyriform, spindle and stelliform cells. Inthe caudolateral area of ADVR (cla), the clusters are like masses and bunch and are made up ofmonopole cells. In the medial area of ADVR (ma), the cell clusters are like bunch. And they havelots of fibers.â‘¡The size of cross section proportion declines according to the sequence of cla, ma,rla. The cell clusters of ADVR forms like circularity. The pallium thickening area has a similarform with the ADVR. This status has been analyzed in this thesis. In the end, some conclusions are given. And some problems that need more studies arepointed out.
