The DTM (the digital terrain model) for automatic-design of thruway was put forward by Prof. Miller in 1956. Since then , the DEM is used for design of various circuit diagram (railroad, highway, circuitry), and for account of area, cubage, gradient of various project, and for estimating visibility from point to point; for rendering contour, grade-graph, aspect-graph, solid model; for making orthographic image and repair map in the Topography; for assistant data to classify in the Remote Sensing; as basic data in the GIS, for analysis and layout actuality of using soil, for disaster prediction; for navigation, guiding missile in the military affairs. In a word, use of the DEM is extensive. The theory and technology of the DEM include the technique and means of gathering data, designing data structure, making model, research and putting into practice arithmetic of interpolation, 3D visualization, estimating accuracy, quality control about the DEM, and interrelated computer technology, etc. So far, the above-mentioned theory and technology about the DEM are researched continually. The contents researched in this thesis are as follows: ① arithmetic of building the TIN from separate point. ② the DEM interpolation arithmetic from the TIN. ③ putting into practice the arithmetic of making the TIN and interpolation using Visual Basic 6.0. ④ estimating the above-mentioned arithmetic by tried using true data. ⑤ making the 3D Solid Model in the digital the photogrammetry system-VirtuoZo using data of the DEM been made in the DEM system. ⑥ concluding the method about estimating accuracy and quality control of the DEM by researching reference literatures.
