An experimental and theoretical study on wavefront aberration of pulse compression grating is presented in this paper.First, the research meaning of the ICF and international research status of pulse compression grating are introduced.Second, with the ray-tracing principal, the relation between the adjusting offset of optical path and the diffractive wavefront aberration is deduced. When wavefront of grating is less than 1/4 λ , adjusting offset of the spatial filter in the optical experimental system is calculated. We also analyse how wavefront aberration of the grating changed when that is compressed twice or quartic. Then we ascertain the effect of the surface error of grating on the diffraction wavefront aberration.Third, the effect of the wavefront aberration of grating on the pulse compression characteristic is analysed in principle.Fourth, a better adjustive mode is introduced and analysed at length. We defined this adjustive mode as the moire fringe technique. Its adjustive precision and sensitivity is given .we also show the effect of grating pairs on removing defocus aberration.Finally, with experimentation we test the diffraction wavefrontaberration of grating. We analyse how the adjusting error of the grating pairs affect the wavefront aberration.The work would be the foundation of the following research about quality estimation and detecting of multiplayer dielectric grating.
