| From the beginning of Geographic Information System(GIS), technology and application are always the main impetus of its development. From the viewpoint of technology, the development of GIS depends on contemporary science and technology, especially computer science and technology. Since 1990s, as the Internet tide sweeps the world, Web GIS, which is the combo of GIS and www, has become a main direction. And from the viewpoint of application, GIS has been applied in many fields, and has made a great deal of contribution. At the same time, with the popularization of GIS, the users of GIS need more to resolve their problems.In the domain of statistics, there are a lot of statistic data, which usually are represented by character. But such statistical data has geographic meaning. And if they are represented by means of thematic map, the data might have more clear meaning and present more useful information. But the users in such field often don' t know the cartographic knowledge, and they often would not like to buy the expensive and intricate software too. So, their exigent demand is the cartographic service on the internet.After introducing the background of the thesis, the author discussed some concepts of Web GIS and Web Cartography, analyzed the technologies for designing a Web GIS, and chosen the most suitable one from these technologies. In the following chapter, how to design a thematic map is discussed systematically, and how to customize statistical map interactively in the internet environment is also done, and the solution to some of the key question is given. In the last, the thesis gives a design of a web_based statistical cartographying system, which includes detail description of data organization, service establishment and map display, and this system has been implemented, the test result of this system is given. |
